You walked along the sidewalk, watching as droplets of rain rolled down the street. The road glistened under the streetlights, and you took slow steps. You could hear faint sounds of sirens in the distance, and you were nearly blinded by all the lights in the busy city. Traffic roared past you, but that didn’t stop you from walking.

You ignored the various cars that zipped by, until you couldn’t anymore. You found yourself staring into the bright headlights of the cars as you walked in the opposite direction of the traffic. One car, it was dark in color, had slowed to a stop, right beside where you were walking. Alarmed by this, you quickened your pace. Even though it was probably just nothing, human instincts motivated you to move faster without looking back.

“Hey!” You heard a voice call. Of course, you didn’t respond, you just moved quicker until you were running.

You glanced back once, to see that a blonde boy was chasing after you. “Get away from me!” You spat, but he easily caught up to you. He grabbed your arm, but not in a hurtful way. It was more firm, as such to stop you from running.

You breathed heavily, as did he, and you stared at him with fear in your eyes. “Let me go,” You growled, attempting to pull your arm from his grip.

“I’m not trying to hurt you,” The boy said, but he still wouldn’t loosen his grip on your arm.

“I’m not what you think I am,” You barked at him. “Guess you’re not getting lucky tonight, you disgusting pig. Now let me go!”

He looked surprised by your anger, but it only seemed to calm him. “No, no,” He shook his head. “That’s not what I meant.”

You rolled your eyes. “Sure,” You said, your voice dripping with sarcasm. “I don’t even know you!”

He wiped at his nose with the back of his hand before explaining himself. “I saw you walking, and I thought you might need a ride home. It’s dark, it’s cold, and you’re alone. I promise you, I’m not a creep.”

You chuckled in disbelief and tugged yourself free from him. You glared at him before running away. You inhaled through your nose as you ran away as fast as your tired legs would take you. You quickly looked back, to see if he was chasing after you, and to your surprise, he was just standing there, right where you left him. He buried his face in his hands and slouched over. You watched his slim figure stand in the dark, and something urged you to go back.

Taking a couple steps, you walked back, without him noticing you. You stopped when you were beside him, and you lightly tapped his shoulder with your finger.

“I guess I could use a ride home,” You mumbled, feeling bad for being so harsh to him earlier.

He lifted his head and looked into your eyes before running his cold fingers through his hair. “I’m Niall,” He said to you, in a soft voice.

“Call me (Y/N),” You said. He reached out for your hand, and you looked at him with a puzzled expression before getting the hint and resting your hand in his. His fingers wrapped around your hand, and the heat warmed you.
