You were on your way to the pet store. And, you were super happy because today was the day that you were finally getting a dog. You’d wanted a pet for years, and now was your chance.
“Do you have any type in mind?” The lady at the counter asked you.
“Not really. I want a nice dog that I can play with,” You said.
The lady nodded knowingly. “Follow me.”
She led you to a German Shepherd, nicely groomed, with the sweetest eyes. “This is Tricia. She’s a two-year-old German Shepherd, she’s potty-trained and spayed. She’s very playful, but I must warn you; German Shepherds are a lot of work. You have to be very dedicated to have an animal, especially a Shepherd. Would you like to see her?” The lady asked, motioning towards the dog.
“Why not?” You nodded, standing back as she unlocked the cage and grabbed the dog. She handed Tricia to you. “She’s so sweet!” You smiled.
You held and played with Tricia for a while. “Does she know any tricks?” You asked the lady.
“No, but that’s something you could always teach her,” She said.
You nodded, talking to Tricia in a baby voice.
“Oh, hey. There she is,” You heard someone say from behind you. You turned to see a boy about your age with four others, heading towards you and the lady. You held Tricia closer, hoping they weren’t coming for the dog.
“We need your help,” One of the boys said to the pet lady. You sighed, glad that they didn’t want Tricia; you were honestly considering her. She was a very gentile dog, but very playful. Just what you wanted.
“What can I do for you?” The pet lady asked.
“Um…do you have any other German Shepherds?” A boy asked. He obviously was not from here with that accent.
“Just Tricia, sorry sir,” The pet lady said, nodding towards Tricia, whom you were still holding. You swallowed a lump in your throat. So, they did want Tricia.
“We saw her first, shouldn’t we get her?” One of the boys asked, watching your every movement.
“No! Let the girl have her!” Another boy interrupted.
You stood up, repositioning Tricia in your arms. “If you guys really would like her, you can have her,” You said, offering them the dog. You really liked Tricia, but if they had her first, then they should get her.
“No, no. It’s fine,” Said the boy.
“Really, I can find another dog. It’s no problem,” You smiled, handing him the dog. His hand brushed against yours as he took the dog from you.
“You’re really nice. You didn’t have to do that, ya know. I mean, we could always get a Beagle or something,” He said.
“No, it’s fine. Hope you like her,” You smiled, heading towards some other dogs. They watched you walk away, whispering things to each other.
You knelt down to look at a puppy Collie, when the boy tapped your shoulder. “Yea?” You asked.
“Sorry, um…we could have joined custody of Tricia. Ya know, we could…um…share her?” He said, taking his hat off and then replacing it again about five times.
You stood up, so that you were the same height. “I’d love to,” You smiled.
He sighed of relief, taking you over to the other boys. “These are my friends. We’re adopting the dog together,” He told you.
You nodded. “(Y/N).”
They all introduced themselves to you, smiling in return. And after that, you shared Tricia with the boys, becoming best friends with the first one, whom you later learned went by Niall.
