Niall Horan Imagines

The Problem- Part 3

With a bunch of about six balloons in one hand and a sphere-shaped present in the other, you made your way to Niall’s dorm with a big grin on your face. At any other time, you would have been skeptical about walking right into his dorm, but it was his birthday and you wouldn’t let yourself miss your boyfriend’s birthday. A random boy let you into the building, and after thanking him, you hurried to Niall’s room. Setting the present down on the floor, you inhaled a deep breath and put on your best smile before leaving a heavy knock on the wooden door.

A silence fell upon the room and you had to wait a minute until Brendon pulled the door open, singing, “Oh, (Y/N)! Hi! We, uh, we weren’t really expecting you.” You’d already met Brendon a few times, as you and Niall had been together for a couple weeks now. But you hadn’t heard from Niall all day, and on his birthday, you were expecting him to invite you over or something. But you heard nothing from him, so with your presents, you decided to pay your own visit to see him.

“Where’s the birthday boy?!” You exclaimed, peeking around Brendon to see Niall sitting on his bed with his head in his hands. He lifted his head when he heard your voice, and you made eye contact with him from a distance. He forced a weak smile onto his face and you excitedly waved at him. You turned back to Brendon and asked, “Can I come in?”

“Of course,” He said, stepping aside. You grabbed everything and wobbled into the room, setting the balloons down on Niall’s desk. His smile was natural this time, not forced, but it was still a weak smile. You knew, right away, that something was bothering him.

“Hi, babe,” You said, before sitting next to him on his bed. Brendon plopped himself in a beanbag chair, a new addition to the room since you and Niall started dating. You nudged Niall’s arm with your elbow and quietly asked, “What’s wrong?”

He only shook his head at first, refusing to say anything. He wiped his eyes with his hands while you turned to Brendon, asking, “Did something happen?”

Brendon sighed and, ignoring your question, said, “Niall, man! Why didn’t you tell me it was your birthday? I didn’t even know.” Niall chuckled a little and shook his head again, still refusing to speak. You were upset. Why was everyone ignoring you?  It wasn’t like Niall to act this way. You were worried that maybe you had done something to bother him, without even knowing it.

Immediately blaming yourself, you squeaked, “Is it me? Did I do something? Niall, if I said something to upset you… I’m so sorry, I-”

Niall placed his hand on your knee and looked up to meet your eyes, saying, “You’ve done nothing wrong, princess.”

“Yea, that’s important,” Brendon suddenly added, “It’s important that you know that, (Y/N). You did nothing wrong here. None of this is your fault.” As if you weren’t already worried, you felt your whole body go still. A million negative thoughts ran through your mind but the one that stuck out to you the most was quite possibly the worst one—is Niall going to break up with me?

 

“I don’t even know what’s going on! Somebody please tell me what I missed because-” You were interrupted again, and this time you were stricken with silence, simply because you didn’t know how to respond.

“I have to go home,” Niall mumbled, “Back to Ireland.” He then pressed his lips together and formed his hand into a fist, as if crushing all of his emotions. He was a mess, and now he knew you wouldn’t be any better. Brendon nibbled on his bottom lip, feeling lost in the tension that had grown in the air. He was in the middle of trying to talk Niall through this when you showed up at the door, and because Brendon had no idea it was Niall’s birthday, he wasn’t expecting you to just show up. Like everybody else, he wasn’t quite sure what to do. He felt bad for his friend, and he felt bad for you, too. The whole situation was a tough one, and he knew it was only going to get worse once Niall explained it all to you.
