Your friend had invited you to this party she was having, and you agreed to go, but now you were regretting it. When you first walked in, your eyes landed upon a familiar pair of blue ones, which belonged to Niall. You’d just broken up with Niall, not even a week ago, and you were still so emotional about it. She invited you to this party, knowing Niall would be there, and you were so upset with her for it. She opened her arms for a friendly hug, but you waved it off.
“You could have told me he was going to be here,” You spat, staring at Niall. You shot him an icy glare when he noticed you, and he paused.
“Karmin, come on. You know you’re not over him,” She leaned in, whispering the next part. “And, to be honest, I don’t really think he’s over you, either. Go talk to him.”
“Are you serious?” You growled. “I didn’t come here to get back together with my ex!” You realized that you might have spoken a little too loudly, as you caught Niall’s head dropping from the corner of your eye.
People were starting to stare, and you were now drawing unwanted attention to yourself. Rolling your eyes, you scowled at the crowd around you. “This is stupid,” You mumbled, grabbing your jacket and draping it over your arm before heading for the door.
Your friend followed you, grabbing your wrist before you could leave. Tugging it away from her, you lightly pushed her away. “Keep your hands off of me,” You warned. “I can’t believe you did this! You know how I feel about Niall!”
All heads turned as Niall suddenly appeared in the center of the crowd, begging for your attention. The room was silent, and you heard his voice clearly. “How do you feel about me?” He asked. You tensed at the sound of his voice. Your back was facing him, and you worked up all of the courage in you to turn around and face him. Your legs felt weak at just the sight of him, as if you were falling in love with him all over again. Shaking the thought from your head, you ran your tongue along your teeth and cleared your throat.
“Excuse me,” Niall interrupted, before you could even say anything. “Would you prefer to talk in private?” He eyed the gathering of people before looking back to you, and thankfully, you got the hint. Dropping your eyes to your feet, you placed your hands at your side and smoothed your dress down.
You felt your friend nudge your arm from next to you and you quietly glanced up to see her winking at you. Sighing, you straightened your posture and nodded. Niall’s expression softened, as he had been desperate to talk to you. He was relieved that he was finally getting a chance. He bravely walked through the crowd until he was face-to-face with you. He smiled gently and offered his hand to you. You placed your hand in his, warming immediately at his touch. It was like electric; from just the subtle touch of his hand, the feeling of him was surging through you and pulling you in already.
There really was no other place to go, so Niall led you past the people and out the back door, so you were standing in your friend’s backyard. He let the door shut behind him, and waited a minute to see that no one had followed you two. You threw your jacket over your shoulders, feeling the chill of the air on your skin.
“You look very nice in that dress,” He commented, his eyes scanning over your figure as you leaned against a tree.
“Thanks,” You murmured. You had wanted to say more, but it had been days since you’d last spoken to him. It had only been days, yet you felt like he was a completely new person to you, especially how he was careful with his words and gentle with his touch.
“I miss you, Karmin,” He admitted, his eyes wandering up to solemnly meet with yours.
You bit your lip, sniffling. A few tears had gathered in your eyes, and you were hoping that Niall hadn’t noticed. You had so much that you could say to him, but you were finding comfort in remaining silent, and instead listening to what he had to say.
“I miss touching you,” He continued, “And I miss kissing you, and laughing with you, and waking up to your smile.”
“Well, I guess that makes two of us,” You finally spoke, with a small chuckle. Just like that, all of the frustration you felt earlier was gone.
Within seconds, Niall had crossed the yard. He was now standing close to you again. His hands hovered over your arms, and after a moment of hesitation, he moved your arms aside. He looked up into your eyes, searching for permission to proceed. You blinked once, and he placed his forearm above your head on the tree, stabilizing himself. His other hand gently flattened against the side of your face, and he studied your expression. His gaze dropped to your lips and you knew exactly what was on his mind when suddenly his lips were brushing over yours.
He closed the small space between you, his lips moving smoothly with yours. You closed your eyes, tasting his words. He kissed you hungrily, and you wished it would never end. In fact, it wouldn’t have ended so abruptly if your friend hadn’t burst through the door, cheering.
“I told you!” She shouted, squealing in excitement. “I knew you weren’t over each other!”
Niall chuckled and turned back to you, running his hands along your arms. “I love you,” He whispered, so only you could hear.
You giggled and stood on your tippy toes, pressing one last peck to his lips before saying, “I love you too, Niall.”
Your friend invited you two back inside and after apologizing to her, you enjoyed the rest of the party with Niall, happy in knowing that he was the one you’d be going home with.
**This turned out to be longer than I had originally planned, but that’s fine. I hope you liked it! Let me know!**
