Cassiopeia was spending the summer of '93 at St Anne's Childrens Home as her previous foster parents had found all of their belongings running around the house creating havoc after being bewitched and no longer wanted to foster her. If you were to ask Cassie how the chaos was created she'd simply shrug and say "no idea, i'm underage remember? it'd be impossible for me to use magic outside of Hogwarts!" and that was the truth, partially. Cass was underage and couldn't technically do magic outside of Hogwarts without the Ministry being notified and she truly didn't quite understand how the chaos had been created even though it had been created by her.
During her first 2 years at Hogwarts she had realized that she could learn and perform spells quite quickly with very little practice even going as far as being able to do them wandless and sometimes even wordless, yet she had never found an explanation for this. Growing up she had been able to play many pranks on others which included magic and not once did the Ministry ever know. It was almost as if her magic was traceless.

Being at St Anne's wasn't awful in Cass' opinion, in fact she'd probably prefer it over being with a foster family as her bestfriend Effie Taylor was there too. She had met Effie when she first arrived at St Anne's after her Grandmother had died and they became friends instantly. St Anne's was probably one of the only Group Homes Cass hasn't been permanently banned from. Cass often moved from different Homes and Foster families whereas Effie had only ever been at St Anne's but every single time Cass returned her and Effie became inseparable once again.

Their summer was filled with fun and the occasional late night police chase. Despite Effie being quite the opposite of Cass and usually quite shy and not one for rule breaking, Cass always managed to rope her into some sort of trouble.

It was another warm summers night and Cass and Effie could be seen dancing down the streets of Blackpool without a care in the world past curfew. They both had managed to slip past Matron quite easily (as she was passed out drunk in her office) and made their way down to the seafront which was a few miles from the Home. Cass and Effie sat on the beach together in a peaceful silence, the only noise that could be heard was the occasional break in the waves.

"Effie" Cass said whilst looking straight over the other girls shoulder.

"Cassie" giggled the slightly drunk teenager.

"When i say now, we need to get up and run back to the Home"

"What? Why?" Effie said slightly confused.

Cass left no time to explain as she quickly shouted "Now!". Even though Effie had no idea as to why they had to leave, she quickly threw the half empty bottle of vodka they had stolen from Matrons cupboard and began to run. Over the years Effie had learnt not to bother questioning Cass about her madness as there usually was some sort of meaning
behind it.
