Cassie's recovery was a slow struggle, but day after day the overwhelming pain she had suffered for months begun to subside and she started to feel more like herself.
"I can't believe you really found her. After all these years." Remus mumbled one morning.
"I think a part of me always knew she was alive. That wherever she disappeared off to she was fine with." Sirius replied.
"How was it?" Remus asked, braving the topic for the first time.
"How'd you think." Sirius scoffed. "Khalessi was her usual self. As loving as bloody Walburga if that's even possible. You wouldn't have thought it was her own bloody daughter."
"Funnily enough, that was the thing that drew you to her."
"Moony! Were you worried about us?" Sirius almost laughed at the thought of it.
"What no! Remus defended. It's just. I mean she is Cassie's mum."
"She's a right fucking bitch. Should've seen the way James dragged me out of there. I think her being Cassie's mum was the only thing that stopped me from killing her."
He hadn't told Cassie about Khaleesi yet. He debated it with himself deeply, yet what good would it have done. Telling Cassie that her mother was alive, but not in the slightest bothered about her daughter?
That wouldn't end well for anyone.
In a selfish way, she had gone this far without her mother so why bother adding new wounds around the subject.
Cassie had returned to Hogwarts that morning, reluctantly dragged through the Floo Network with James after many arguments that morning with Sirius.
Hermione was the first to catch her as she walked into the great hall pulling her into a tight hug. "We heard what happened! I'm so glad you're okay."
"I'm fine." Cassie laughed, plastering a fake smile across her face not quite forgetting their last interaction.
"Are you sure? We were all so worried!" Hermione.
"Honestly I am."
Ron was next, a mess of apologies and thankful she was okay. Cassie knew it wasn't all truthful. They still all truly meant what they had said about Draco, but on the other hand how could she blame them when it wasn't all lies and he had spent their entire time at Hogwarts tormenting them?
"I'm glad you're back." Harry stated, catching Cassie by surprise. The two had left things in a very messy state.
"Yeah. Thanks." Cassie smiled bluntly. She wasn't up to have that conversation right now.
The day drawled on as it always seemed to do. There was a war looming over them all, starting to become much apparent in everyone's mood.
Professors spoke in hushed tones in quiet corridors, even the portraits were preparing.
Cassie dreaded Potions more than usual. As she descended into the dungeons, the air grew colder, the shadows deeper. The familiar scent of bubbling concoctions was now laced with a nervous tension that made her stomach churn. She really had consumed too many of his potions recently.
Snape swept into the room, his black robes billowing behind him like a storm cloud. His eyes, as always, were fixed on the class with a mixture of disdain and expectation. "Today," he drawled, his voice echoing off the stone walls, "we will be brewing a Draught of Peace. A skill, I suspect, many of you desperately need."
