"Not you!" I had groaned upon my entry.
There was a click from behind. Professor McGonagall had wordlessly shut the door, which meant there was no going in or out for the next hour. "Trust me, the feeling is mutual." Malfoy sneered.
You see, detentions aren't my favourite thing in the world, but they're bearable to some extent. But now that I have to do one with a git like Draco Malfoy, it's a whole different story.
To say we have history is an understatement. Malfoy is that one person I've never been able to get along with. Hence the fact I now have a list counting how many times we've either jinxed each other, pushed one another down flights of stairs, humiliated each other, or tried to kill one another. Which makes being locked in the same room as him slightly problematic.
Either way, we have an hour together. May as well make the most out of it... somehow.
"So," I leaned against the wall, arms crossed. "What have you done this time?"
Making conversation with Malfoy? I really have hit rock bottom.
"Tried to one up your stunt, that's what I bloody done." Malfoy scoffed.
"Did you now?" I lifted a teasing brow. "And will I want to know how you did that?"
"Doesn't matter, going to tell you anyway." Malfoy said, turning around in his seat to fully face me. "You know that tiny Gryffindor? With the camera?"
"Oh, blond?" I ask, tilting my head. Malfoy nodded. "Mudblood version of you?"
The second remark made Malfoy scowl. I simply grinned at him, "Continue."
"Got his camera, didn't I?" Malfoy's gaze darkened as he relived the moment. "I mean, I was gonna give it back. Eventually. But the stairs started to move and it caught me off guard so it just— slipped out my hand."
I slapped a hand over my mouth. Do not laugh, do not laugh.
"How many flights of stairs did it fall down?" I brought myself to ask without showing a hint of amusement.
"Six." Malfoy looked up, searching my face for any sort of reaction. "Which I think makes us equal."
"What?" My brows furrowed.
"L/N: 1, Malfoy: 1." Malfoy grinned. "Or did you already forget about the scores on the board?"
"Wouldn't forget even in my dizziest daydreams, Malfoy." I drawled, a hint of breathless sarcasm in my voice. "You know how much I love putting your ego down like a dog."
"My ego?" Malfoy brushed a few fingers through his curtains. "That's rich coming from Miss Perfect."
"Aw, you think I'm perfect?" I wore a sarcastic smile as I spoke.
"You wish," Malfoy snorted.
"No I don't," I mused. "If I were to seek male validation, it wouldn't be from you."
"Enlightening, L/N. Truly." Malfoy's porcelain features sharpened. "I hope the next generation of feminists have the same mindset."
"So do I," I tilted my head. "Means no more insufferable blond prats from your bloodline for the rest of time. Whoop whoop!"
"As hurtful as that should be, I'm okay with my bloodline dying out. Cheers." Malfoy shot me a sarcastic smile which matched my own.
