"We have to leave."
I looked up to where Harry stood, the flap of the tent pushed aside. Hermione was standing a few feet behind him, shivering. There was a certain edge to them both— you could feel it in the air.
"Why?" Ron lowered down the static of his radio. "We've just gotten settled."
Harry looked at Hermione and sighed deeply. "We're not safe here."
"Hermione said I'm not strong enough to apparate." said Ron, his eyes turning to the thinning Gryffindor. "Didn't you?"
She raised her shoulders and slid her hands into the back pockets of her jeans— "Er, we'll have to go by foot."
Ron went pink in the face. It wasn't like Hermione to not vouch for him, not currently. His injury had been too serious.
"When?" Draco finally asked the question I had been wondering.
"Morning." Answered Harry, his eyes starting to look awfully dark.

"Here," Draco said, pushing a flask towards me. "Drink."
"I'm alright," I shook my head, pursuing forward. We had been hiking through meadows of grass for what felt like days, although it had only really been a matter of hours. It wasn't the walking that was difficult. Enduring the heat of the sun as it sat, directly above us, not a cloud in sight; that was the difficult part.
"Y/N, it's just water." Draco was insistent.
I rolled my eyes and turned my head to meet his gaze. "I know what it is, Draco."
The blond poked his tongue into the side of his cheek.
"But if I need a drink, I'll ask you for one, okay?" I said, maybe in a tone a tad too clipped. "Don't need to keep bugging me."
Draco dropped the flask to his side and frowned, but chose not to speak any further on the matter.
A soft whistle started rising on the breeze. It was barely noticeable at first, but then it started growing louder, and eventually attracted the attention of the others up ahead.
"Shit..." muttered Ron.
Dark plumes were rocketing through the sky. There wasn't any time to think. "Go," Draco hissed, ushering me forward. One after the other, each of us piled into a rickety, old barn and sat with our backs pressed into the wall.
The whistle outside felt like it was ringing on the inside of my ears. Draco grabbed my hand and intertwined our fingers, both of us looking up through the skeletal remains of the hayloft. A succession of Death Eaters strafed the blue above, and as the distance between us and them expanded, the dust and rotting timber settled; the barn gone silent.
~
We each moved slowly, cautiously; this time having the shadows of a flyover to keep us hidden from the skies above. It was getting later in the day.
"I'm hungry," Ron complained loudly.
Harry and Hermione, who had been walking up front, leading the way; both stopped. They turned around and studied him quietly.
"What?" Harry's question almost sounded like a laugh.
"I'm hungry." Ron repeated.
