There was a gentle flutter in the air. A butterfly, it's wings a bright and beautiful orange, made me giggle as it made a gentle landing on the tip of my nose.
A camera shuttered.
Startled by the sound, the butterfly took flight. I watched as it danced across the deep green lawns before turning to the person responsible. "Did you have to do that?" I asked, my lips pursed.
Draco ignored my question. He slipped a photograph out from the bottom of the camera and eyed it with a warm grin on his face. "This one is definitely getting framed."
I glanced over at the picture and frowned. "Oh my god, no it is not! You seen the state of my hair?"
Draco rolled his eyes and looked up at me with a bored expression. "I like it—,"
Suddenly, the sweet smell of syrup and freshly whipped pancakes seeped into the air. "Morning!" Chirped a cheery voice. We both turned to see Narcissa walking towards us, carrying two plates full of breakfast. "Lovely out here, isn't it?"
The sun was only just rising, so the sky was painted with a variety of shades; ranging from the lightest pinks to the brightest shades of orange and red. The earth was dripping in the sun's golden glow.
"Lovely," Draco agreed, although his silver gaze was glued onto the plate of pancakes his mother held. She set them down on the picnic blanket we both sat atop of, mostly to avoid the prickle of grass and it's wet morning dew.
"Thank you, Narcissa." I said, looking up at her with a grateful smile on my face.
"Of course. Is there anything else I can get for you?" She asked warmly.
I shook my head. "This is already perfect, thank you."
Narcissa's eyes sparkled in the light. She gave me a gentle smile before she turned to Draco and gently squeezed his shoulder. Then, she turned on her heels and made her way back up towards the Manor.
"I love your mum," I hummed, cutting up a portion of my pancake.
"I love her too," Draco said, stuffing some pancake into his mouth. "What's your mum like?" He asked, gazing at me curiously with his mouth full.
"Uh, she's fine." I said, taking another bite afterwards in order to avoid speaking with my mouth full unlike someone.
"Your dad is... some bloke." Draco looked up, hinting towards the interaction we had at the Quidditch World Cup.
"Tell me about it." I rolled my eyes. "You're lucky he walked off before the argument could escalate."
Draco stopped chewing. "Does he scare you?"
"A little."
"Now what am I going to do?" Draco groaned.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, what if I plan on marrying you or something when we're older? I'll never get his blessing." Draco frowned before he stuffed his mouth with more pancake. I, however, froze in my place.
"What?"
Draco's chewing came to a slow.
"I'm sorry." I shook my head. "I just— I wasn't expecting you to say that."
"No, I'm sorry." Draco put down his fork. "Too soon."
"No, it's not— I mean, I would—," I stopped at once. I was literally digging a deeper hole for myself.
Draco raised his eyebrows. "You would what? Marry me?" He asked, a small grin on his face.
"Well, yes— but not right now— but maybe one day,"
I was doing that nervous ramble thing again, damnit.
"I'm just gonna stop talking." I mumbled, occupying my mouth with more food. Draco appeared incredibly amused. "Hey, no judgement." He teased. I glared at him with every bite I took.
"Fine, fine." He gave in. "Hypothetically, say we did, where would you want to live?"
I absorbed the question. I thought of a few places I've wanted to go since I was little.
"London." I said, staring into the distance. "I like it. There's so many people with their own little lives just passing you at any time of day. You know, you can get that nice city feel but also see a lot of greenery. It's like a best of both worlds. Not to mention, all the smokey French café's they have everywhere; with their ivy covered walls. Have coffee on the go. Find a nice flat."
"That's what you want?" Draco looked over at me, a gentle smile on his face.
I dipped my head. "That is what I want."
"Then that's what we can have." He said, an incredible amount of warmth in his eyes. Then, he looked down, around, then awkwardly back up. "Do you want kids?"
I bit on the inside of my cheek and gave him a slow shrug. "Uh... I dunno. Having to deal with you is hard enough already."
Draco rolled his eyes and playfully nudged me. "I want a boy and a girl." He said, rolling over and laying on his back. I looked down at him and cupped his porcelain face in my hands.
"Unfortunately, you can't decide that." I laughed.
"I can manifest it." Draco grinned, closing his eyes. He playfully started to hum until I gently swatted his arm for him to knock it off.
"We'll just have to see in ten years." I said.
"Fine." Draco agreed. "Ten years."
I tilted my head and squinted my eyes at him. "If I'm not sick of you by then."
"Hey!" Draco lifted his head up from the ground, a fake look of offence on his face. I started to laugh. "You could never get sick of me."
"What if I already have?" I teased.
Draco's eyes narrowed into near-slits. "Well, the gates right there." He pointed to the entrance gate in the distance. "Okay, bye." I said, standing up, trying to repress my smile.
Dracos face dropped and he got up in a heartbeat as I started to walk away.
"It was a joke!" He called after me, and out of nowhere, I felt his arms wrap around my waist from behind. I burst into a fit of giggles and dropped to my knees, what made him topple down with me.
"I love you, Draco Malfoy." I said in between my laughter. Draco dropped his head onto my shoulder, so I turned my face to the side and pressed a gentle kiss against his temple. His porcelain cheeks went red and his face scrunched into an unusually happy expression.
"I love you more, Y/N L/N."
