"There he is," I said, walking into the Slytherin common room. Malfoy was staring into the fireplace, a strangely childish pout on his face. Crabbe, Goyle and Blaise were all around him; Goyle wrapping a plaster around his finger.

"I still can't believe you bit me," he grumbled to Malfoy, who wasn't listening. A group of fifth year girls walked past Malfoy and all started to laugh, murmuring the words; "bouncing" and "ferret."

I sat down beside Malfoy and gently stroked a finger along his shoulder. He tensed a little under my touch. "Don't fret, I'm not going to turn you into a ferret."

Malfoy immediately sent me a glare.

"Too soon for jokes?" I lifted my hand. "Okay."

"Everything's an absolute pisstake," Malfoy grumbled. "Potter calls me pathetic yet I'm the one who gets turned into a stupid ferret."

"I know..." I sighed, placing my hand back onto his shoulder. "But he's probably going through a lot right now. The first task is in a couple of days, he probably just took his stress out on you."

Malfoy slowly turned his head. "Making excuses for him now, are you?"

"I'm not—,"

"Forget it." He scoffed, getting onto his feet. "I'm going upstairs."

"Malfoy, wait—," I tried to say but he completely ignored me. I watched as Malfoy disappeared into the stairwell without another word.

"Give him some time." Blaise placed a hand on my shoulder. "He just needs to cool down. He'll be alright in a couple of hours."

I went down to dinner with Pansy. Millicent, Daphne and Tracey joined us half-way through, and the lads sat near enough to butt into our conversations here and there. However, when the last of the plates vanished from the tables, we got up to leave.

Upon entering the common room, laughter filled the air and the others all raced for the best seats on the sofa. So, while everyone was distracted, I took the opportunity to slip away. I appeared at the bottom of the stairwell and climbed my way up.

The door was ajar by an inch.

I silently pushed it open and saw Malfoy on the bed, his head buried in a book. I quietly walked over and he was yet to notice I was even there. At least until I sat down on the bed in front of him. His silver eyes peeked over the top of his book.

"What?" He sounded bitter.

I rolled my eyes and crawled up the bed so I was next to him. "What're you reading?" I asked, gesturing towards his book. I thought it was best to avoid the topic from earlier.

"A book." Malfoy grumbled.

"I figured," I said, gently taking away his hand from the side of the book. Malfoy didn't say a word as I looked down into his palm; tiny, crescent-shaped indentations running red.

"Malfoy," I whispered, stroking a gentle finger across his palm. "Just talk to me."

Malfoy hesitated briefly before he closed his book. He turned a little on his side so he was facing me, a blank expression on his face. "About what?"

"I dunno, anything..." I murmured. Malfoy glanced down at where I continued the gentle strokes across his palm. After a minute of silence, he fathered the courage to ask— "Did earlier mean anything to you?"

"Earlier?" I looked up at him, confused.

Malfoy continued to stare down at our touching hands. "You know, earlier." He shrugged. "When we... kissed."

My eyebrows lifted in surprise. I hadn't expected him to bring it up. When I was silent for a second too long, Malfoy looked up and scoffed. "It didn't, did it?" There was hurt in his voice. He turned away and made to get up. "I should've known. Nothing bloody means anything to you—,"

"Malfoy, wait."

"See? Still can't even call me by my name." He scowled. The second his feet touched the ground, I locked my fingers around his wrist and pulled him back into the bed. Malfoy was caught by surprise when I closed the tiny space, my lips on his.

We both sighed in relief against one another— and felt as our hearts fell in sync. "It meant," I whispered against his lips. "Everything to me..."

Malfoy gently cupped the side of my face and brought me closer while I wrapped my arms around his neck. Neither of us could even think in that moment. Not even when I pulled my lips off of his, our cheeks a thousand different shades of red.

I couldn't even believe what I had done as I sat there, our noses brushing. But needless to say, I had him hooked.
