November started to pass by fast. The days were growing colder, which made waking up in the morning harder. From the moment I stepped out of bed, I'd do nothing but shiver. So, here I stood, pulling a Slytherin sweater on beneath my robes.
Malfoy had already gotten ready and sat on the edge of the bed, waiting. "Your skirt is too short." He said, glancing into the mirror. "It hardly covers your thighs."
"I've worn it like this all year, Malfoy." I rolled my eyes, unrolling the waistband by the tiniest bit. "Alright, no need for the attitude." Malfoy scoffed. "I'm just trying to help. Don't want other boys looking at you like that now, do we?"
"So what if they do?" I looked at him over my shoulder, frowning.
Malfoy cleared his throat and stood up, "Nevermind."
I watched him approach me through the mirror. Malfoy's hands came around my waist and he grabbed the top of my skirt. I gasped softly as he unrolled it by about an inch. "See?" He said, lifting his gaze to meet mine in the mirror. "Nice and covered."
"It was fine the way it was." I frowned. Malfoy briefly rested his hands on either side of my waist. "And now it's even better," he grinned. I rolled my eyes, "You're just being overly protective."
"Overly protective?" Malfoy raised his brows. "I'm not being overly protective— I'm simply being... protective. It's my job, y'know? Since you're my friend."
I narrowed my eyes at him.
Malfoy dropped his hands from my waist and cleared his throat. "Come on," he said, changing the subject. "Let's go, I'm starving."
We walked down the stairwell together and left the almost empty common room. On our way to the Great Hall, I glanced out of one of the windows and was relieved to see it wasn't a particularly miserable day. Scotland doesn't exactly come with great weather, so to have a decent day at this time of year was a blessing.
A wave of syrup and freshly roasted coffee beans intoxicated my senses upon entering the Hall. Blaise and Pansy were sat together, and Crabbe and Goyle sat across from them. Malfoy and I joined them seconds later.
Across from us, however, at the Gryffindor table was a bout of commotion. Ronald Weasley had a surprise parcel in his hands and he examined it with excitement. "Look! Mums sent me something!"
His face dropped. Ron pulled out a long, ruffled dressing gown which was brown in colour and covered in lesson. They looked pretty ancient and certainly not fashionable. All of the Gryffindors around him started laughing.
"What in the 1890's," Malfoy murmured, looking up from his cereal. I slapped him lightly on the arm, though my own amusement was apparent.
"Mums sent me a dress!" Ron exclaimed, horror all over his face as he held the robes up to his body. "Well it does match your eyes," Harry joked. "Is there a bonnet?" He dug his hand into the parcel and pulled out a white, frilly bonnet. "Aha!"
"Put those down, Harry!" Ron groaned, his face red with embarrassment. Harry dropped the bonnet back into the parcel, though still thoroughly amused.
"Ginny, these must be for you." He said, approaching his younger sister, who was just about to slip her fork into her mouth. Ginny paused and glanced up at him, disgust on her face.
