A double-decker bus sped towards us as we all stumbled onto the road. With a great glare of light headed our way and a mad screeching horn splitting the air, we all tumbled back into the nearest railing. The bus drove past us barely a second later, and all I could do was stare after it, my chest beating.
"Muggles!" Draco scoffed after the bus, watching it blend with the traffic. "Do they have any shred of respect for anyone else on the road?"
"Clearly not..." I whisper breathlessly, taking his hand in mine. My mind was spinning— I didn't even know where to start. "Come on, we best be on our way before someone does end up driving into us."
"Right..." Draco said, pulling me onto the path after the trio. Around us, hundreds of skyscrapers lit the sky. On the sides of the buildings were brightly coloured screens with words that screamed at you in bold. Red buses flooded the streets and teemed with drunken pub crawlers.
"Here you go! Sightseeing tour?" Offered a man dressed in a giant bear costume. He tried to shove a leaflet in my face but I pushed past him instead. "Leaves in 15 minutes!" He called after us.
"Where are we?" Ron asked as we pushed through the crowds. Music blared from every other direction and the sound of chatter buzzed through each ear.
"Shaftesbury Avenue." Hermione explained quickly. "I used to come here to the theater with mum and dad. I don't know why I thought of it... it just popped into my head."
"Great. Now let's get out of here." Draco murmured, glancing over his shoulder at the dark shapes that moved within the crowd behind us. So, all of us hurried on, strangers bumping by and faces of strange muggles passing us in a paranoiac blur.
"This way!" Hermione shouted from ahead.
We slipped away from the crowds and took refuge in the shadows. The click of my heels echoed through a narrow, cobbled alleyway. As we all came to a halt, Hermione began to rummage through her tiny beaded purse.
"We need to change."
I looked over at Draco, my brows furrowed in confusion. He looked at my dress and I looked at his suit. Then, we turned to Hermione where from the purse, she extracted three pairs of jeans, T-shirts, a pair of leggings, and a few light overcoats.
"How the ruddy—," Ron's mouth dropped.
"Undetectable Extension Charm." Hermione explained, passing me a pair of leggings and a sweatshirt.
"You're amazing, you are." Ron grinned.
"Always the tone of surprise." Said Hermione as she gave the bag a shake. A loud, heavy thump echoed from within. "Ah, that'll be the books..."
"Lovely..." Ron murmured, his voice fading in the distance as Draco pulled me further down the alley. "Is something up?" I ask softly, peering over his shoulder to see the others slipping into their change of clothes.
"Nothing of importance." Draco shrugged, loosening his tie. "I just didn't want two other men watching as you change."
Why was I not surprised?
I shake my head. "Well, at least make yourself useful and zip me down." I turn on my heels, gesturing to the zip at the back of my dress. Draco came over and gently brushed my hair onto my left shoulder. Then, slowly but surely, he dragged the zip down, revealing my skin.
"Thanks..." I whisper, stepping out of the dress that pooled by my feet. "Not a problem." Draco cooed, pressing a gentle kiss against the back of my head. I take my lip in between my teeth and fight back the urge to smile.
After changing into our clothes, we made our way back to the trio and passed Hermione our previous outfits. She quickly shoved them back into her rucksack.
