"Where are you going?"
It was ten minutes to seven o'clock and most had returned to their dormitories for the night. However, here I was, tiptoeing across the common room in hopes to make a silent escape. What I didn't expect was for Daphne to be sitting at the bottom of the girl's staircase, watching me.
I cursed under my breath.
"Y/N?"
"Mhm?" I hummed, finally turning around to meet her gaze. Daphne looked confused if anything. "I asked you a question?" She said.
"Oh, sorry." I laughed nervously. "Didn't hear you."
Daphne smiled softly and shook her head, "Let me guess; getting away from Malfoy?"
"Yeah, you could say that." I grinned nervously.
Daphne dipped her head towards the door. "I've got you. The coast is clear."
"Thank you so much," I mouthed, pushing the door open. On my way out, Daphne gave me one last wave. However, as soon as the door shut, she shook her head and laughed. She'd seen Malfoy only ten minutes prior and he had come up with the exact same excuse.
So there I was, passing a couple dimly-lit sconces, not knowing Daphne was onto us. Not that there even was an us. If anything, Malfoy was just going to use tonight to try and pitch me off the tower.
The walk through the castle was quiet and the corridors were deserted. Well— for the most part. There had been a couple sixth years snogging in a dark corner, but hey, none of my business. The real struggle was the trek up the Astronomy Tower. There were hundreds of stairs and not a single radiator in sight.
But at last, the steps began to flatten out, and a cool breeze carried the strong smell of men's cologne through the tower. And that's when I saw a tall silhouette stood over by the rails.
I wasn't quite sure how I was supposed to announce my arrival. "Hello," Would be too polite, but a "Hi," would be too—
"You came..."
Apparently in the time I spent arguing back and forth with myself in my head, Malfoy had been able to smell my perfume and turned around. His sharp, porcelain features glowed in the moonlight.
"I did," I said, awkwardly bobbing on the balls on my feet. Malfoy watched me glance around the tower, and look at nearly everything except for him.
"Why are you so nervous?" He asked, sounding slightly amused.
"Nervous?" I scoffed, finally turning to look at him. "Me? Nervous?"
"That's what I said,"
"Don't kid yourself," I crossed my arms around my chest, shivering slightly against the wind. "You are the last person that could ever make me nervous."
"I'll keep that in mind," Malfoy said, tapping against the steel railing. His pale eyes looked even more daunting in the night.
"Yes, well, now that we've established that— why did you ask me to meet you here?" I asked, tilting my head. "Especially in this weather." I said, gesturing to the mostly dark sky.
