"Oi, L/N!"
A hand grabbed my upper arm and shook me awake.
"L/N!"
The second my eyes opened, I found Malfoy staring down at me. His porcelain face looked ghostly in the moonlight. "Oh my god," I groaned, rolling away from him. "Will you ever let me sleep?" I asked, glancing at the clock on the wall which read: 10:03 PM
I must've fallen asleep early after the Halloween feast.
"We have to go," Malfoy hissed, dismissing my remark. I turned back around to face him, my eyes in near-slits.
"What?" I whispered harshly.
"Now!" He said, grabbing my arm and pulling me up.
"Get off me!" I spat, jerking my arm out of his grip.
"L/N, you don't understand—,"
"Try me."
Malfoy grabbed both of my arms this time and forced me to look him dead in the eye. "Professor Snape is downstairs," he said in an utmost serious voice. "Sirius Black managed to slip past the dementors. He was sighted in the castle a couple minutes ago."
"Wait— what?" My face softened. I had to rub a clenched fist over my eye to make sure I wasn't still dreaming. "Are you sure?"
"No, I just made that up for the crack." Malfoy scoffed. "Of course I'm sure! I had to bloody run back up here and get you!"
"How heroic," I whispered sarcastically. "Who knows? Maybe Sirius Black would've come up here and hit me like my father—,"
Malfoy rolled his eyes, "Okay, that's enough. Come on—," he said, finally tugging me out of bed. He opened the door and I hesitantly followed him down the stairs— no more than a pair of bed shorts, fluffy socks and a tank covering my body.
Neither of us said a word to each other the whole time.
Once everyone was accounted for in the Slytherin common room, Professor Snape led us out of the dungeons. "I wonder where he's taking us..." I muttered, rubbing a gentle hand up and down my cold arm.
"Oh, so you're talking to me now?" Malfoy smirked. "I guess being heroic really does come in handy."
"Hardly," I scoffed before looking over my shoulder. We were at the back of the line, so all that consumed the halls behind us was more and more darkness. "I just don't know where Pansy is— and I don't like walking at the back."
"Aww," Malfoy tutted. "Is someone scared?"
I simply glared at him for that. He raised his hands in retreat and said nothing else. Five minutes later, we joined Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Gryffindor in the Great Hall, who all looked extremely confused.
There were still hundreds of candle-filled pumpkins on the tables from the feast earlier that evening, and orange streamers and bats continued to float across the stormy ceiling.
However, since we were the last house to enter, Professor Dumbledore himself drifted over. "The teachers and I need to conduct a thorough search of the castle," he explained, meanwhile Professors McGonagall and Flitwick closed all doors into the hall. "I'm afraid that for the safety of you all, you'll have to spend the night here. I want the prefects to stand guard over the entrances to the hall and I am leaving the Head Boy and Girl in charge. Any disturbance should be reported to me immediately,"
Before Dumbledore could leave the hall, he waved his wand and the long tables suddenly flew to the edges of the hall. Another wave; and the floor was covered with hundreds of squashy purple sleeping bags.
