Chapter 2

Chaos reluctantly sauntered into the richly furnished throne room. A deep red velvet rug ran down the entire length of the room and large potted plants filled with dead plants littered the spaces between the huge columns on either side. An erie light lit the dark room that was neither natural nor unnatural.

“My son, how nice of you to join me.” A deep voiced hissed at the back of the room.

Chaos flicked his view forwards to observe his father seated grandly upon a blood red throne. He was a man who oozed cruelty with a sharp nose and long dark almond eyes. His hair was of the deepest black, flowing stick straight way past his shoulders and down his back. He was neither skinny nor of a considerable build...but he was powerful. The air around him seemed charged with an electrical energy and pulsed with a heart beat all its own.

“Lucifer.” Chaos inclined his head in acknowledgement. “You summoned me.” His voice void of emotion.

“So I did.” Slowly he gestured his arms out and shrugged causing his wings to unfurl as well.

His wings were a gruesome thing to behold. When completely open they were taller than him and more than twice as wide. Chaos thought before he had fallen they must have been the most magnificent thing the world had ever seen. But no longer...now they were almost all bone, a skeleton of what they should be. The feathers that still remained were a disturbing shade of off white, almost the same color as the bones themselves.

“I can sense a few lingering souls floating around the city with no guide. Can you tell me why that is?” Lucifer absentmindedly stroked one of the hellhounds seated to his left. They were loathsome creatures, bodies made up of black fire with mere holes for eyes that glowed yellow. Molten fire seeped from their mouths when they drooled, setting fire to anything around them.

“My apologies your highness.” Chaos bowed swiftly eager to be out of his presence.

“Tsk tsk.” Lucifer pronounced slowly and menacingly. “When you neglect your duties, that reflects upon me as well...” He had a slow way of talking, letting each word and syllable rumble in his chest.

“Wouldn’t want one of Yahweh’s angels coming down here to scold me again, now would we?” He blinked and brought his eyes up to bare into Chaos’s skull.

“No.” He tried to keep his voice even and strong.

“Good.” Lucifer drew the word out for several seconds.

Chaos felt the uncontrollable compulsion to move his feet and before he knew it he was marching out of the room not of his own accord...his fathers work. He felt the enchantment wear off as he reached an open window.

“Guess its time to get to work.” Chaos bitterly whispered to the night air.

He stepped up on the windowsill and cautiously fluttered his wings about his body testing the air. Delicately he picked up the necklace hanging around his neck, brought it to his lips and whispered “show me the way.”

Instantly it began to glow and stuck straight out in front of his face, pointing in the direction he must go. With one final sigh he jumped straight out and made his way into the night.
