Chapter 10

Chaos left Dawne standing on the roof, he couldn’t believe he stayed for so long. At first he didn’t notice the ringing in his ears but then a moment of silence passed between them and he heard it.

He had really been neglecting his duty lately and on this night there was a lot of souls in the surrounding area.

Souls floated above the houses letting out their bell like peals. The longer he stood arguing with Dawne, the louder and more high pitch their screams became. The sound had reached his father already no doubt and he would have to answer to him once he returned.

His necklace was pulsing and drawing on his energy making him sluggish. “Varkaris” He whispered against the cool pearl. He made the rounds collecting the lost souls as they screamed and howled out to him. Their whines grated against his brain and patience.

It was similar to having a horrible headache that debilitates you and the only way to get rid of it was...well in this case is was to collect souls. Silencing them forever.

Chaos itched to return to Dawne or at least watch what she would do now. But alas he did not for a particularly strong air current was drawing him towards the cathedral. His fathers work no doubt.

Upon gliding into the tall tower window he almost bowled over his father.

“Lucifer!” He exclaimed actually surprised, for he had not sensed him. Or maybe he did and his mind was on other things.

“Welcome back my son.” He didn’t look at Chaos but instead turned and headed out into the hallway. “Walk with me wont you?”

Chaos took a deep breath knowing it was not really a request but a command.

“I’ve had such a headache all night.” Lucifer drawled out slowly as he sauntered through an open hall way. Chaos followed his slow deliberate foot steps, remaining silent.

“I don’t remember raising you to be lazy.”

“Yes, father, I’m so-” Suddenly Lucifer turned quickly eyes seeming to liquify and blackness bled in. His aura turned from black to red and pulsed with power.

“Don’t let it happen again.” His voice was no longer slow and eerily tranquil but instead low raspy and quick.

Chaos resisted the urge to shrink away and drew up his wings a little higher.

“Of course” He bowed curtly. “Your majesty.”

Lucifer’s eyes turned back into their hazy gray and his aura was black once more. “Good.”

Chaos felt an enchantment burrow its way into his legs, one that would dismiss him and force him to retreat. He fought it for a good five seconds making a sweat break out on his brow before he gave in exhaustedly.
