Chapter 33

“Damn the sun.” Chaos pulled away from Dawne’s lips muttering curses. His heart was beating out of control...he wasn’t supposed to feel anything...not when the sun is out...But when he brushed her lips he felt the warmth, he felt a surge pass through his entire being.

He glanced up at Dawne’s incredibly light green eyes, she was wide eyed and looking past him.

“Sorry...I...I” Chaos mumbled unsure of what to say.

“I...” Dawne stood up mumbling as well.

“No don’t leave me!” Chaos called to her as she turned around. “I mean...please stay.”

She hesitated but slowly turned and came to squat down in front of him once more.

“What are you doing to me?” She whispered eyes down cast.

He lifted his right hand up to caress the side of her face.

“I could ask you the same thing.” Chaos sighed as his hand traveled through the side of her cheek.

Dawne said nothing, keeping her head down and they remained silent. It was such a quiet moment...in days to come Chaos would reflect upon this and wish to go back to such a simple time.

“I’m so weak...I don’t know if I can fly.” He broke the silence at last.

Dawne glanced up at the sky “It’s about two hours until sundown.” Chaos nodded and struggled to stand only to fall roughly back down.

Dawne reached out and tried to catch him or break his fall but he traveled through her outstretched arms. “Damn it!” She cried.

Chaos took a few deep breaths “It’s infuriating isn’t it?” He let out a soft chuckle and Dawne’s own uneasy laughter followed.

“Your outline is...flickering. Did Taharial hurt you that badly? I can’t understand why angels would cause anyone harm...”

Chaos shook his head slowly. “My father has a protective aura around our home, so even when it is daytime our density and feel does not waver. I’ve never encounter an angel outside of my home so I did not know the consequences of such a bright... presence. Not to mention” He swallowed hard as a wave of nausea passed over him. “not to mention he is the angel of purification...someone must be gravely ill for him to be called.”

“Can you walk?” Chaos shook his head in response, feeling foolish for his lack of strength.

“I’ll stay with you until you get your strength back. But staying up here on the roof could be dangerous for me. I can bring you somewhere safe...if you think you can make it down the block.”

He nodded “If you help me, I can make it.” He had no idea how long it would take to regain his strength but if he wasn’t back in the morning Lucifer would be furious.
