Chapter 14
“So...wait.” Dawne shook her head unbelieving. “You are the son of Lucifer?”
“The one and only.” His smile was bitter.
She felt fear creep into her calm exterior and she stood up.
“Dawne, I’m not going to kill you-” He titled an eyebrow skywards and remained sitting.
She opened her mouth but he cut her off “Or eat your soul.” Opened it again- “Or curse you.” She closed it.
“Have I actually caused you any harm already?” She mulled that over...
“Yes! You burnt my hand with that rock!” She held a hand to her mouth.
“What? No! That was to save you from further harm...it’s not the same thing!” He rose now too.
“It is the same thing! It hurt! I’ll have a scar tomorrow or you might just have to lop it off!”
“Let me see...” Chaos took a set towards her swiftly and she instinctively backed away.
“No...” She pouted and held her hand close to her chest.
Before she realized what had happened Chaos burst forwards propelled but a flap of his wings and her hand was in his.
“Tsk tsk.” He shook his head slowly. “What a nasty mark...” He turned it over “and infection has already set in.”
Dawne peered closer but it was impossible to see anything for they were standing in the shadow of a chimney.
“I bet you cant even feel the pain anymore, you’ve lost all sensation haven’t you?” Dawne flexed her fingers in his noting the lack of pain. “Wounds inflicted by magic do that.” He sighed.
“I’m afraid they’re going to have to remove it or else it will travel up your arm numbing your whole body and eventually stopping your heart. What a waste of such a delicate hand...truly a shame.” Dawne gasped pulling her hand away from him and held it up to the moonlight. Surprisingly the shadow just darkened over her hand.
Realization. “Move this shadow!” She turned furious to Chaos who shook his head. Dawne stepped to the side but the shadow followed her and grew even darker.
Instead of moving away this time she moved towards Chaos until she could feel his hot breath in the air. Closing her eyes against the swirling black she envisioned him standing before her. She drew a fist back gauging his height and punched him as hard as she could in his gut.
He let out a howl and the shadow shrank away. Quickly she looked at her hand in the renewed moonlight and noticed it was completely unscathed.
“Liar!” She turned to Chaos who stood doubled over holding his stomach.
“You punched me!” He huffed. “You actually punched me!”
“And I intend to do it again!” She came at him fists swinging but he raised his wings and shot into the air just out of reach.
“You really are your father’s son! Spouting lies for your own amusement, intent on injury!” Dawne watched as he perched atop the chimney.
“I’m going to ignore the rude comment.” He said swiftly, looking awfully high and mighty sitting up there with wings wide spread.
“I tell you I’m the son of Lucifer...Lucifer the opposite of Yahweh... the ruler of death and destruction...and I myself have a huge amount of unspeakable power and evil within me and you...punch me?!” Chaos screamed down at her.
“I don’t care who you are! All I know is that you’re a lying piece of filth!” She spat back.
“You really aren’t afraid of me are you?” He shook his head.
“Nope.” She crossed her arms and turned away from him.
“Huh. I like you.”
