Chapter 18

“Come on lets go somewhere else” Chaos watched Dawne hesitate for a split second then nod coyly.

He didn’t feel like walking so with two effortless pumps he was in sky-bound. It was hard to find someplace to talk for the city was really bustling. This was Chaos’s first time seeing the city in daylight, being out during the day wasn’t forbidden necessarily...just advised against. They trudged on for a long while until they reached the outskirts of the city.

Chaos was mildly afraid that Dawne would be too afraid to follow him for this long. And as they reached the winding trade roads he watched her curiously look around. Finally there was a lone tree on the side of the dirt path and he angled downwards.

“You know it’s very hard to see you against the sun when you are all...” Dawne flourished her hands about her body “...invisible.”

Chaos shrugged and made his way over to the tree, beckoning for Dawne to do that same. The shadow cast from the tree was dim but he wrapped it around himself regardless, knowing the darkness would amp up his visibility.

“Are you warm?” He questioned as he noticed a slight film of sweat on her brow.

“You can not feel the heat?” She dabbed her forehead.

“Normally yes, but the sun distorts my perception of sensations.”

“I did not know I would be trekking so long in this heat, I would have worn lighter fabrics.” Dawne untied the cloak from her neck and shrugged out of it. She also dropped a leather vest revealing a tight white blouse. It looked to have once been a mans but she had it tucked into her breeches causing the fabric to stretch across her bosom.

“I’m sorry-” He felt back for causing her any lack of comfort.

“It’s alright, the shade feels nice.” She stretched out her legs in front of her while Chaos cast the shade fully across her as well. “Thanks.” A small smile.

They sat there in silence for a few minutes, Dawne resting against the tree while Chaos sat in front of her legs crossed.

“So why are you see-through?” Her soft voice dashed away his daydream.

“Well I’m not entirely sure but I’ll answer to the best of my ability.” It was her turn to get some information and it felt good to talk to someone for once. “All fallen angels loose their visibility in direct sunlight and with that they also loose density.” As if to demonstrate he put his hand through her outstretched leg.

“I still have some sensation though it’s just extremely muted in a sense. Almost like a brush of air or a slight tingle.” He shrugged and pulled away.

“Is this Yahweh’s way of punishing you?”

“I suppose so. Fallen angels are creatures of darkness, I believe it’s His way of saying we don’t belong in the light.” Dawne looked puzzled at that.

“But you were born this way, you did nothing to oppose Yahweh so why should you be punished?” Chaos was taken back by that.

“I...I don’t know...” It was a sore topic and he wished to change it.

“So what is this “true name” you mentioned? The reason why I can see you and no one else can.” Thankfully she changed the subject. “I mean...I’m not crazy am I?”

Chaos chuckled and ruffled his wings outwards in anticipation for a breeze.

“The wind still touches you? Even if I can not touch you?” Dawne asked suddenly as she watched the air play at his dirty feathers.

“Yes...” He began slowly “The wind is something my father created but it is flighty and destructive.” Turning serious he advised “Never trust the wind Dawne, the wind will always lie. Always.”

She furrowed her brow “..okay, that’s an odd thing to say.” Pausing amount she collected her thoughts “So the true name?”

Chaos didn’t know how much he was going to tell her. It was an extremely delicate situation “Every being has a True Name.” He began slowly hoping she could keep up.

“Yahweh gives us all a True Name when we are born, that way he can keep track of us. Yahweh and his angels are born with the True Language engrained in our heads. In this tongue you can not lie and you can not disobey.”

He paused and waited for Dawne to nod that she understood. “Now angels are the only beings who know their true names. Mine is Chaos, we do not mask our names with others for it is a sign of power not to do so. Never in the history of this world has a mortal discovered their true name.”

“Yet you claim I have?” She interrupted.

Chaos nodded. “It’s hanging about your neck right now.”
