Chapter 32
“Chaos?...” Dawne attempted to place her hand on his shoulder but it fell right through his outline.
“Taharial” Chaos whispered.
“What? What’s Taharial?” She asked confused.
“I have to get out of here.” His eyes were blankly staring past her.
“Is Taharial that angel? Is that why you have to leave?”
His outline flickered and his face looked pained. Finally he blinked frantically and made his way for the opposite wall.
“No wait! Don’t leave me.” Dawne couldn’t help the words falling from her mouth but he had already materialized through the wall.
Emptiness flowed through her heart and she ran to the open door. Once outside she was greeted again by the gigantic crowd. Roughly she pushed through them only to have her outstretched hand grabbed.
“Dawne!” William smiled down at her but she frantically pulled away from him.
“Dawne...what’re you doing?”
“Let go of me!” She cried and tugged so roughly she threw him off balance causing him to tumble forwards.
Dawne merely glanced over her shoulder to see William sprawled out on the dusty road. She could apologize later, right now she need to find Chaos.
She sprinted around the building and couldn’t spot him so she made her way to the rooftops. Spinning frantically trying to get a vantage point so she could gauge the direction was when she caught him crouching in a small chimney shadow.
“Chaos!” Dawne heaved trying to catch her breath as she made her way over to him.
His chest was heaving and his wings were halfway wrapped around him almost in a protective cocoon.
“What happened back there? Are you alright?” Once more her hand fell through his side as she tried to make contact with his outline.
“Damn the sun!” She cursed causing Chaos to look up her.
“He was so bright...his aura was so bright...so much light.” His voice was soft yet ragged.
Curiously Dawne crouched down in front of him and finally he lifted his light gray eyes to meet hers. “I’ve never encountered an angel out of my fathers cathedral...I didn’t know it would hurt this much.”
“He hurt you?!” Unexplained anger surged up in her soul.
“His presence was so bright and unexpected, he brought light with him, casting it about...like needles taring through me.” His cast his gaze back down to his feet and drew in some deep breathes.
“Taharial was his name?” Dawne recalled his overwhelming bright aura.
Chaos let out a weak bitter laugh. “Yes. Taharial: angel of purification. You thought he was magnificent...didn’t you?”
All Dawne could do was nod in remembrance of his huge white wings and sparkling golden hair.
“Thought so. He’s white, pure...not riddled with darkness nor soul festering with evil...of course you thought he was magnificent.” He unfolded his wings slightly to indicate the dark splotches.
“Hey!” Dawne spat at him angrily. “Look at me!” He looked away from her with his jaw clenched.
“Chaos look at me!” His eyes snapped to hers leaving her breathless for a moment.
“Your soul is pure. I can feel it, don’t ask me how but I know. There is no evil in you, you are a good person. Don’t ever sell yourself short!” He shook his head slowly at her speech.
“It’s true! Maybe you cant sense it, but I can. And you are every bit as magnificent as Taharial...even more so! Did you see that stern expression on his face? What a boring fellow and besides he’s so bright how can anyone stand to look at him for so long?!” That earned a shy smile from him and her own encouraging smile followed. “You’re much more pleasing to look at in my opinion...much more handsome.”
Slowly he titled his head up “You really believe that?” It was such soft stated question filled with worry it made her heart break.
“With every fiber of my being.” She stated curtly.
“Thank you.” He breathed.
They were inches apart, Dawne crouching in front of his crumpled form. Chaos unfolded his arms from his knees and placed them firmly on either side of her body. She watched as his outlined arms went straight through her thighs and when she glanced up he was an inch away from her lips.
Their eyes were locked and they began to breath heavily in sync. She heard an audible swallow come from Chaos’s throat as his eye lids slowly closed. Dawne’s own eyelids followed suit as her heart raced wildly in her chest.
Briefly she felt a small tingle brush her eager lips and it sent shivers through her entire body.
“Damn the sun.”
