Chapter 45
“I know...where the...girl is.” Rej struggled with the english.
“Where?!” Chaos took two giant bounds over to where Rej was and grabbed both of his clammy shoulders.
“Dious.” Rej just shook his head.
“Dious? Dious has her?”
“I show.” With that Rej stood up and walked calmly out of the room.
Chaos followed suit, his heart racing at a million miles per minute. The walked on and Chaos tried to keep calm as he watched Rej’s bare feet pad slowly down the hall.
“In here.” Rej stopped walking suddenly and pointed to the huge familiar double doors.
“The throne room.” Chaos nodded.
He half expected her to be hidden away somewhere close to Lucifer. But why had he taken her? She is no threat, unless it has something to do with her dark aura...
“I go.” His slave bowed curtly.
“Thank you Rej. You’ve done me a great service.”
And with that Chaos placed both hands on the door and entered the threatening room.

Balan nodded to Dious and the hellhound moved to one side of the door allowing him passage.
He took the stairs two by two knowing that the girls time was running out. The slow drip of water reached his ears and he knew he was at the inside of the cave.
Walking a few feet from the stone staircase was Dawne, laying on the ground looking worn. There was a bright floating orb above her that lit the entire cave.
She was so close to the exit and yet she had not escaped.
“Dawne.” He spoke aloud, letting his voice reverberate off the walls.
She sat up suddenly, her red hair disheveled and her clothes filthy.
“Who’s there? Step into the light!” Dawne screamed fiercely.
Balan took a few more steps forwards unsure of what she could and couldn’t see.
“Balan” She stated crossing her arms.
“You do not see the cave is lit?”
“I do not have the eye sight of an angel.” She scoffed.
“Angel or no angel, the entire cave is alight with this orb and stairs are before you.”
“I see no stairs. And it’s as I said before, the light burns me if I step beyond it.”
“Do you have wounds that need tending?” Balan grew uneasy. This sounded like a strong deceiving enchantment.
“Wounds? From...” Dawne trailed off and looked down at her body.
“Wounds from the light.”
“No...I...do not.”
“Then you are not being burned when you pass beyond the light?”
Balan couldn’t tell her how to escape, otherwise it is certain death. If interrogated and forced to speak the truth, he honestly was just curious about what she was feeling and seeing.
“I am. It hurts, I loose consciousness.”
“It must not be physical pain.” Balan shrugged.
“It is! I mean I feel it, the beam of light where it touches...” She paused and stood up.
“Please, you must know something about this. Help me! I’ve done nothing wrong! Why am I here?”
Balan’s heart twisted. “I can not help you. All I can tell you is a staircase lies roughly ten feet before you.”
“How does that help me?!” She cried, tears forming at the corners of her eyes.
“I will burn if I move towards it!”
“A burn that leaves no mark, is it really a burn?” Balan turned away from her sadly.
“Wait!” Dawne cried behind him.
“Pain is mental.” Had he gone too far? Had he said too much?
Whatever the case, it was up to her now.
“Fight on.” He whispered climbing the stairs.
