Chapter 47

“I was lost.” Dawne swallowed hard and blinked slowly. Her whole body was regaining feeling. First she felt her fingers, then her feet regained their familiar weight.

Suddenly Chaos pulled her against his chest, she heard that slow thrum of his heart and breathed deeply.

“What have they done to you?” Chaos pulled away only slightly to look into her eyes.

“I thought I was going to die.” Dawne suddenly felt tears again forming in her eyes.

Chaos’s aura seemed to darken around him and his brow furrowed.

“I was ready for it, I thought...” She swallowed again “I thought, there’s no need to fight anymore...just let go and then I felt light.”

Chaos shook his head and placed a hand upon her cheek.

“I didn’t feel the pain anymore, it was over.”

“You’re safe now, you don’t have to be in pain anymore.”

“But then I heard your voice and thought...I want to see him one more time. I thought for a split second maybe there was a reason to fight. But then that voice-” Dawne stopped and closed her eyes.

“It said that I should die. To stop fighting, stop holding on...to let go.”

“Stop no more of this, I can’t take it.”  Chaos’s voice dripped with emotion.

Ever so gently he scooped her up and slowly stood cradling her effortlessly in his strong arms.

Chaos took a few steps then Dawne wiggled fiercely in his arms.

“No Chaos!!”

She looked down at herself and saw the red pin pointed light directly in the middle of her chest.

“Put me down!!!” Dawne screamed but Chaos tightened his grip.

“What?! What is it?” He glanced frantically around the cave.

“Please! Put me down! I’ll die this time I know it!” Frantic tears streamed down her face and Chaos set her gently on her feet.

Dawne wobbled shakily on her legs and fell roughly to the ground then scrambled back into the safety of the light. Looking down at her chest, the red light was gone and she breathed heavily.

“Dawne...?” Chaos voiced her name gently.

“The light...” She breathed heavily. “The orb ...the red light that was here.” She placed a hand against her breasts. “It burns me when I step out of the light, then I loose consciousness.”
