Chapter 36
Dawne swam back into consciousness and shivered against the sudden cold. Why was she so cold? And why was she laying on the hard wood floor?...
Realization.
Her eyes fluttered open at once, she must have fallen asleep underneath Chaos’s amazing wing. But now she was left frozen on the floor, all sprawled out, hair wild.
And Chaos had gone...left her. An uncomfortable ache tore through her heart as she propped herself up on an elbow.
Sadly she surveyed the room...but wait.
His back was to her, off white speckled wings flowed majestically down to the ground. Broad shoulders looked stiff and his hair was attractively disheveled.
Relief flooded through her and she slowly lifted herself off the floor. She took quiet steps towards him and joined him in gazing out the window at the large moon.
“Beautiful isn’t it?” She asked quietly.
“A beauty and a curse.” Chaos replied turning towards her slowly.
His deep gray eyes looked pain and his brow was slightly furrowed. All Dawne could do was stare at him in complete shock. Standing there in the light of the moon she finally realized that this man was truly beautiful.
“Did I wake you?” He took a small step towards her.
“No. I was cold is all.” Dawne shrugged it off.
“I’m sorry.” Chaos whispered and drew her into his chest.
She laid her palms flat across his slightly muscular frame and reveled in the heat radiating from his body.
“It’s alright.”
They were whispering even though there was no reason to. It was almost like if they spoke too loudly or moved too quickly this fragile moment would shatter.
They stayed in that embrace for a long time neither one moving or speaking. Dawne laid her ear against his chest and listened to the incredibly slow heart beat she remembered.
“Your heart, it beats so slowly...” She tapped out the beats on his chest.
“And your heart is beating quickly like a little bird.” Chaos pulled away but still kept his arms on her shoulders.
They stared at each other again, each person letting their eyes roam over each others bodies and faces.
“You’re so beautiful. I don’t think you even realize it.” Dawne mumbled in amazement.
“And I wonder if you realize that your hair is a mess.” Chaos grinned warmly.
A violent uncontrollable blush rose in her cheeks, she brought a hand up to smooth it down but Chaos gripped her wrist.
“But I love it.” He added firmly and let go of her hand causing it to drop heavily to her side.
Instead Chaos reached out a hand and entwined it in her fiery locks. Tentatively Dawne brought her own hand up and rested it gently against his strong jaw.
“Dawne.” Chaos whispered as if in pain.
Before she knew it Chaos leaned forwards and captured her lips. Dawne’s eyes fluttered closed as she was overtaken by a feeling of need. Slowly and gently his lips moved over hers and she matched his rhythm perfectly.
Just as Dawne’s breathing became heavy Chaos pulled away and his gray eyes bore into hers.
“I have to go.”
