Chapter 22
Dawne was heading home when Chaos plopped down right in front of her. She produced a frightened squeak and watched as he regarded her with no expression.
“Do you have to pop out like that? Just show up when ever it suits your fancy?! No prior warning?” She pushed past him and kept on walking.
“I actually showed up today, during the day, same time as yesterday...” His voice was void of emotion like the first time they had met. “But you seemed...busy so I left.”
She threw a quick glance over her shoulder and noticed he was walking slowly behind her. “I was looking for you all day. I figured you weren’t going to show up.”
Wind whipped her hair about her face as Chaos shot forwards into the sky and landed on a rooftop. Dawne shrugged and climbed up to join him, struggling slightly to make it up the steep incline.
“You didn’t look like you were searching for me.” His voice was so dull and empty it made her cringe.
“What are you talking about? Why are you talking like that?” She slipped and landed roughly on her knee but kept walking towards him.
“I just happened to come by when you were in the arms of some blonde man.” He shrugged and turned away from her.
“What?!...oh” Realization hit when she thought about the annoying pick pocket.
“Yes oh.” Chaos swung around to face her with dark eyes.
“No he was pick pocketing me! I had to-” She began but stopped “No! I don’t need to explain myself to you!” Dawne felt like she was being questioned by a parent.
“Why do you care?” She placed her hands on her hips wobbling a bit and titled her chin up in defiance.
“I don’t!” He voice was extremely loud and defensive, normally Dawne would have laughed. He cleared his throat “I could just read his emotions in the air and he was a bad man Dawne. I don’t like him, I don’t like you being...around him.” He sighed heavily and offered his hand out to her.
She struggled up to the flat part of the roof with his help. “It’s not likely that I’ll ever see him again. And if you were there I would have appreciate your assistance at least. Instead of floating out of sight and making assumptions!”
“Here sit down, your knee is bleeding.” Chaos said gently and eased her into a sitting position.
“I’m fine.” She said curtly but didn’t object when he pulled off her boot.
Ever so slowly he began to roll up her pant leg. His fingers lightly brushed her smooth calf sending goosebumps sprawling in every direction. He was half bent over her, if he lifted his head up they would face to face.
Tenderly his fingers whispered over her the angry wound on her knee causing a shallow gasp to escape her lips. Chaos raised his head, they were inches apart and his breathing was slow.
“Does it hurt terribly?” Dawne’s eyes were trained on his perfect lips forming the words.
“No.” She merely breathed. They stared at each other breathing in unison, inches apart.
“Well well well!” The gruff musical voice snapped them out of their trance and they both turned their heads. Sure enough it was the blonde man from earlier that day.
“Dawne! How fortunate, it is my turn to find you!” He had an easy smile on his face. Quickly Dawne snapped her attention back to Chaos, his eyes were dark- almost black. He raised a finger to his lips motioning silence.
“What are you doing up here all alone?” He moved towards her “I thought I heard voices.” He turned his hazel eyes too and fro searching.
Chaos locked eyes with Dawne briefly then shot into the air and flew away. Before the man reached her she rose, sprinted forwards and bounded over to the adjacent roof.
“Wait!” He called after her but she made her way swiftly into the night.
