Part 2: Retribution

Dawne and Chaos fled the dank cave hand in hand. They were making good time, running through the winding numerous halls. Until suddenly Chaos came to an abrupt halt.

“No...” He breathed.

Dawne looked up into his eyes, watching them fill with panic.

“What is it? What’s wrong?!”

“He’s calling me...” Suddenly Chaos was yanked back a few feet forcefully.

Dawne ran forward toward Chaos’s outstretched hand, their fingers met briefly before he was yanked backwards father.

“Chaos!” She called running for him again.

“No! Dawne run, you have to run! He’s coming!”

“I won’t leave you!” Her voice ragged after so many screams.

Chaos lifted himself into the air with one majestic beat of his wings. He was air borne flapping rapidly and his arms tearing at the air as if trying to propel himself forwards.

“I can’t fight it any longer, Dawne run!” And with that he hit the ground roughly and was dragged by some unknown force down the hall at an alarming rate.

In the blink of an eye he was gone. Dawne immediately began to run after him but a strong hand clasped her shoulder, holding her in place.

“Not a good idea sweetheart.” The melodic yet masculine voice sounded familiar.

She turned around to face Taharial, once again blinded by his pure aura and unearthly beauty.

“No, I have to save to him! Let go!” Dawne twisted trying to get away from his iron grip but instead her grabbed both of her shoulders and gave her a violent shake.

“Listen to me. If you go after him, Lucifer will kill you both. Do you hear me?! As far as we know, Lucifer doesn’t know you’ve escaped, and if by chance he does...he has no idea Chaos helped you to do so. So, you running in there is a sure death for the both of you.”

Dawne grasped at his words but still looked behind herself breathing heavily, contemplating if she should trust this angel or not. Finally she gave him a curt nod of acceptance.

“Good. Lets go.” Taharial suddenly scooped her up and in an instant they were flying down the hallway at top speed.

Dawne fought the compulsion to close her eyes as Taharial made his way down a particularly dark hall toward a closed door.

“We’re going to hit it!” She screamed out but her words were drowned out by his wing beats.

Suddenly Taharial shifted her onto one arm and outstretched his opposite arm making a fist. Just as they were about to make impact he opened his fist and with it the door swung open.

Before Dawne could realize it, they were in the air, flying through the crisp night sky.
