Screens & Sleep
_______________________________

"WHERE AM I?" I ask. Large monitors are plastered on every inch of the walls, computers, and screens flashing different colors and people.

But everything looks oddly familiar. It was then that I hit me, this footage, it was from this house.

I saw one screen showing the front yard with all those beautiful flowers. I saw another showing the living room and many other rooms I had yet to discover.

I looked back at him in confusion. He only stared at one screen and my eyes followed.

The barely lit room helped me easily see what was shown. It was Junior.

Why would he need to keep watch over his son like this?

He was laid in his bed, sound asleep as his grandmother wrapped a blanket around his shoulders. The camera was at an angle where you could see every inch of the room.

"I wasn't going to kill you." He stated as his eyes removed themselves from the screen and onto me. I looked back at him.

"Then why do that?" I ask, slightly embarrassed that I had an outburst like that. He sighed.

"I needed to know you had nothing else." He simply said. He raised his hand and pointed at the screen, putting a spotlight on Junior. "This is your one reason."

I shook my head, utterly confused with what he was saying.

"What do you mean? Why am I still here?" I ask, slowly taking more steps towards him. He only stared back at me, showing no emotion.

"You'll work for me, watching my son."

"And why would I?" I asked dumbly. He stared at me, squinting his eyes and crossed his arms. His hard stare made me slightly shiver.

Why can't you ever shut the hell up?!

"The more you speak," He began as he slowly walked in front of me. He stopped and leaned down, taking his hand and gripping my chin before raising it, connecting our eyes. "The more it makes me want to shut you up."

I let out a shaky breath as his hand cupped my cheek before his thumb glides over my bottom lip.

"Your name is Royal Queen, you have no living relatives. You have no job and you're about to be kicked out of the only home you've ever known." He said as he dropped his hand back to my neck.

"This is the only chance you'll survive. That's why." He said with a faint smirk. He turned around and made his way to the door.

"I give you permission to walk these grounds, but if you try to escape, my son won't be your biggest concern." He said. I stood, there expecting him to leave the room and leave it at that but he stopped walking and continued.

"I am a God."

My legs ached as I walked through these empty halls. They held nothing but flickering lights and long rugs, small, round tables by every other door that had miniature potted plants placed in the center of them.

The building itself seemed ancient, I suppose that was why I found it beautiful. This house had so much potential, only if someone who had actual taste decorated it, it would have a better vibe to it.

I forced myself to keep waking, wanting to memorize everything I could. The heels made soft thuds against the rug as I walked down the hall. I could feel this slight ringing. It buzzed through my body, shooting back in my head but dissolved as I chose to ignore it.

My legs got shakier as I walked. I leaned against the wall, pulling my body up to stand. I gripped the corner as I continued to walk, coming face to face with a new path.

As I walked through this eerily quiet hall, my mind replayed what he said.

'I am a God'

No God I'll ever worship.

He may be the best looking man I've ever seen in my life but that doesn't mean he has a right to act as if he's superior to any other human being.

What bothered me the most was how he eased my life into the conversation. How did he find out my life in such a short time?

It's not like it was secret, if one of my 'friends' had asked me who or where my family was, I would've told them I had none. It's not like I had friends though. After what happened with them I completely cut myself off from the world.

How long had it been, a few hours? And he already found that much out about me?

"There you are!" I heard a deafening shout from behind me. I turned around and was faced with the excited older woman. "How did it go?"

I looked at her, confused.

Did she think it was supposed to go somewhere?!

"What do you mean? That crazy man wants me to watch..Junior.." I breathed out. She noticed my unstable stance and my shortness of breath and scurried to my side.

"Sit, sit!" She yelped as she dragged me over to a vanilla white armchair that was pushed in the corner. I sat down, the pressure off my feet finally released and I noticed another pain; my head.

Rings of agony began to course through my body once again, resulting in me letting out a soft whimper, followed by a pain filled moan.

"Are you alright? Do you need water?" She questioned as she brought her hand to my head. I was about to shake my head but she quickly dashed out the hallway after shouting, "You need water!"

My destitute body slumped back, my eyes closed as exhaustion caught up with me.

I was so busy worrying about what would happen to Junior and what his father was planning, I completely forgot to care for myself. My mental state already being in shreds before today didn't help either.

"Mother always did say my caring heart would be the death of me," I whisper out loud as I feel my heart accelerate. With closed eyes, I slipped into, possibly, the most comforting sleep I've ever experienced.
