annabeth, nico, and i walked back to the parking lot.

being the leader of the quest, i talked to chiron once annabeth connected the iris-message, and he listened intently. i told him the main points about mine and ethan's little detour. he tried to hide his surprise when he found out about ethan saving me.

we arrived at the parking lot, and i told percy what chiron told us.

"we talked to chiron," i said handing nico a gummy worm. "they're doing their best to prepare for battle, but he still wants us back. they're going to need every hero they can get."

annabeth looked up as little red returned, "did we find a ride?"

"the driver's ready when we are," little red said.

the chauffeur was talking to another guy in khakis and a polo shirt, probably his client who'd rented the car that she'd asked for. the client was complaining, but i could hear the driver apologizing.

i wondered why he was ready to drop everything.

"come on," little red said, snapping me out of my thoughts.

she led us to the car and got in without even looking at the flustered guy who'd rented it. a minute later we were cruising down the road.

the seats were leather. there was plenty of legroom. the backseat had flat-panel tvs built into the headrests and a mini-fridge stocked with bottled water, sodas, and snacks.

i pulled out two bottled of redbulls and drained the first one within seconds. i sighed in appreciation as i felt the caffeine coursing through me.

"where to, miss dare?" the driver asked.

i furrowed my brows. i was pretty sure that sounded familiar, but i couldn't place it. the longer i thought about it, the harder it became to place the memory.

"i'm not sure yet, robert," she said. "we just need to drive through town and, uh, look around."

"whatever you say, miss."
