riley doesn't let annabeth do it alone
percy was in his element.
the ship acted as if it was a part of him. it responded to everything he wanted. it listened to which way he wanted it to go. he looked so calm, and peaceful, as if this felt right to him.
we sailed through the night. annabeth tried to help us on lookout, but her face turned the color of guacamole real quick. i convinced her that we don't need three people on lookout. she agreed and went down to lie on a hammock.
percy and i sat comfortably for a while.
"why don't you get some sleep?" percy asked, breaking the silence.
instead of protesting i silently agreed, and went downstairs to get some sleep.
after a dreamless sleep, i went back above deck to see annabeth sitting on the dock. i sat next to her, and looked out at the water. it glittered darkly. annabeth told me how she told percy about thalia and the cyclops.
i looked further and saw an island. a small speck on the horizon, getting larger as we moved closer.
"the sirens," i muttered in awe.
"i wanna listen to them," annabeth said.
"what?" i asked bewildered, and confused.
"they say it makes you wiser. this is my only shot. i gotta do it." she pleaded.
