"i gotta get going," beckendorf told silena.

his girlfriend continued to fuss over him, finding the smallest of flaws all in hopes to prevent him, or at least delay him from leaving. as much as he would rather spend time with him girlfriend than blow up a monster-infested cruise ship, some things had to be done (like blowing up said monster-infested cruise ship).

he sent riley — his girlfriend's sister who was also like a sister to him — a helpless look.

riley looked at him, disbelief etched all over her face. he knew she didn't want to interrupt, but that's kind of why she was the only one here besides silena. beckendorf tried again. finally admitting defeat, she sighed lightly.

she slung an arm over her sister's shoulders and slowly pulled her away from beckendorf, "c'mon lena. he's right. if he's too late we all know percy might just go in to blow the ship empty-handed."

it wasn't true, and riley knew that. the plan involved beckendorf picking percy up, but silena didn't know that.

silena bit her lip as if she was struggling to come up with an excuse to make her boyfriend stay just a minute longer, but she stepped back.

beckendorf tried to send her a reassuring smile, "i'll be fine. i'm just gonna go blow a cruise ship up. an average day for us demigods. i'll be back before you know it."

silena didn't smile back. instead, she pulled him in for a kiss. beckendorf responded instantly, holding her tight, not wanting to let go. he pulled away (riley will say he was the one who squeaked, but he swears that it was silena) when he heard a snap.

riley stood, eyes wide, as she got caught in the act of taking a picture of the two of them. there was a click and hiss and the polaroid came out.

"seriously?" silena asked her sister.

riley shrugged as if she didn't quite understand what the problem was, "you're lucky rora isn't here. now that'd be a problem."

beckendorf winced as he thought of the last time aurora had caught them. "very lucky," he agreed with riley's sentiment. "you sure you don't want to come?"

riley shook her head. there was a slight rustle in the air, and she paled. "oh shit."

"hera's still sending peacocks after you?" beckendorf asked.

"and cows," riley muttered already pulling up an energy shield to protect her. "can't believe she can get them in camp. there should be a rule against that."

"gods'll get their way," silena shrugged.

beckendorf ignored the ever increasing rustle of the peacocks (there might have even been a moo somewhere) and sent a smile towards his girlfriend and the girl he thought of as his own sister. "well, wish me luck."

riley smiled at him and shifted her energy barriers towards where the noise was coming from, "you won't need any. those are stark industries power cores in there. they'll get the job done."

beckendorf snorted, "'course they will."

he mounted blackjack, percy's pegasus. and smiled one more time at silena. she stood hugging her arms, looking nervous. riley nudged her and silena smiled back at him.

he wasted no time, flying away on percy's pegasus. if that was the last time he saw silena, he wanted to remember her with a smile on her face.

as he circled away, he could faintly hear a voice yelling, "stay safe!" and another voice yelling obscenities about cows and peacocks.

beckendorf saw percy in a blue prius.

and next to him was the redhead riley wasn't fond of. a scowl took over his features. riley was like a sister to him, and percy and riley have basically been in love (maybe not in love, but close enough) with each other since they were twelve.

then out of nowhere, this redhead shows up, and percy's spending less and less time at camp, which also means less and less time with riley, which means — woah.

beckendorf shook his head to clear his thoughts. spending time with the aphrodite kids really does takes a toll on you.

blackjack may or may not have the same thoughts about the redhead as beckendorf did, because he trampled percy's car. he whinnied, and percy looked out the windshield.

percy looked ready to argue with blackjack, but then he saw beckendorf and his face fell.

"time?" he asked grimly.

"mhmm," beckendorf grunted.

percy said something to the redhead who sighed, a little annoyed. beckendorf hid his grin at her annoyance. then she leaned over and kissed him, and beckendorf turned grim all over again.

percy clambered out of the car, all red and stupid, and slid onto blackjack.

"so," beckendorf began, "i'm guessing you don't want me to tell riley about that moment."

he felt percy put his face in his hands, "oh gods, don't even think about it."

beckendorf chuckled to himself as they flew upwards, "oh, and percy?"

"mhmm?"

"riley's my sister," beckendorf told him. "don't hurt her. ever."

percy nodded his head rapidly, but he looked shocked that beckendorf would even suggest that. "i wouldn't dream if it."

satisfied that beckendorf had scared him enough, he merely grunted in response.

"good. now let's get going. the cruise ship isn't going to blow itself up."
