aunt peggy
3rd person pov
flushing, new york
end of april
"hey minnie," tony stark ruffled his daughter's hair fondly as he walked up to her.
"no, don't do that," she whined, fixing her hair.
she picked up her clipboard and muttered some things to herself, crossing things off of the list, and adding some quick notes.
riley was working on getting everything ready for the stark expo. the opening night was in a few weeks, and everyone was rushing around, feeling the pressure. riley was pushing everyone, but only because she needed everything done.
tony sat up on the stage and swung his legs. some may argue, and say he was acting like a child, but tony would say he was dying. let him enjoy his 'final days'. he'd come to terms with it (sorta). he didn't like it, but he used it as an excuse to do all the dumb things he wanted to.
besides, it wasn't like there were many people who would miss him. the tabloids definitely would, but besides them?
sure, you could say riley, rhodey, pepper, and happy. but that was it really.
well... there was one more person, but she wouldn't really remember him, so it was okay.
"you know who we haven't visited in a long time?" he asked his daughter suddenly.
"your common sense?" riley retorted.
"ha-ha," tony said drily. "very funny. the correct answer was aunt peggy."
riley looked up at him with wide eyes.
aunt peggy was always a prominent figure in her life. she was her father's godmother. she practically raised tony, better than his own father did. aunt peggy basically saved tony when he found out about his parent's deaths. she was the grandmother that riley never had.
"wait, seriously?" riley asked her dad. "you're not just — you're not just saying that, are you?"
"no, i'm being serious," tony nodded his head. then he muttered to himself, "i mean, i might as well see her one last time."
"what was that?" riley asked, having not heard what he said to himself.
"nothing important," tony shrugged. "just, you know, with the stark expo starting in a few weeks, we might not have enough time to meet her later."
it scared him how easily he could just lie to her.
"fair enough," riley muttered. "give me a few minutes to pack up. we can get going after that."
"sounds good," tony smiled until his daughter walked out of sight.
once she was gone, he let the façade drop.
washington, d.c.
"knock, knock," riley said as she knocked on the familiar door.
the father-daughter duo entered the room. aunt peggy lay smiling brightly at the two of them.
"well, well, well," she smiled. "if it isn't my favorite starks?"
"yeah, but i'm number one, right?" tony asked, taking a seat on one side of her.
"you wish?" riley scoffed, sitting on the other side.
tony ignored her, and handed the bouquet to his aunt, "for my favorite aunt."
"i'm your only aunt," she said, taking the flowers.
"still my favorite," he smiled.
"you are such a little suck-up," riley muttered to her father.
"i'm a suck-up?" tony repeated incredulously. "you're the one who's always saying, 'oh, aunt peg, you're so badass'. or 'no way! you worked with the howling commandos. i bet you kicked all of their butts.'"
riley narrowed her eyes at him, "i don't sound like that."
"sure," tony drawled sarcastically.
peggy carter smiled fondly at the two of them.
she'd been diagnosed with alzheimers a few years ago, and she didn't always remember when the father-daughter duo visited. sometimes she'd confuse them for howard and rebecca. but she loved it when they stopped by.
she loved telling riley stories of the howling commandos, of the things they did after world war ii. reminiscing the olden days was the best part of their visits.
until she forgot all about it.
