that night there was a monster.

at three in the morning, an aethiopian drakon was spotted. i woke up, but i wasn't anxious to check it out. i went outside the cabin, standing next to aurora and cayden. silena and theo were inside, making sure the younger ones were still asleep.

silena would've gone outside with me, but then we'd have to leave aurora with the youngers ones. based on previous experience, that never ends well (it's where my fear of ceiling fans comes in. along with cotton balls and protein bars, don't ask, i'm begging you).

aurora and i still had our blankets wrapped around us. she was leaning on my shoulder. most of the other head counselors, and older campers were outside their cabins. i looked around, i couldn't see percy.

'stop that', i scolded myself.

"what's going on?!" i yelled to the stolls and ellie from across the green.

aurora, who fell asleep on my shoulder stood awake. she grumbled some colorful words and leaned on me again.

"drakon's been spotted. lee's gonna go chase it away!" travis screamed back.

i pursed my lips and nodded. sure enough, lee fletcher was leading some of his siblings to the drakon. i fixed aurora's head on my shoulder so that she wouldn't fall over again.

i watched lee fletcher, vera allen-wright, michael yew, and a few others as they strapped up their armor. i would've helped, but i was in my pajamas.

they were gone a while and when they returned, they looked startled, as if it really freaked them out (i don't doubt that, drakons tend to do that to you).

"it left," lee told us (but he still looked on-edge).

the apollo cabin didn't look anxious to go to bed, but we all went inside. aurora almost tripped three times (and that was only to the doorstep). cayden and i just rolled our eyes, and helped her get to her bunk.

"what happened?" lacy asked me as i tucked aurora in bed.

she was a younger camper. only eleven or so. she was adorable. she had arrived at camp two or three weeks before the summer session began.
