camp half-blood
last week of summer session
"i thought you said you were good at swordfighting?" i said to theo as we circled each other.
i was bored, and theo was also bored. we decided to go a couple rounds against each other. cayden's death was still a fresh wound, but i didn't see his lifeless eyes every time i closed my own anymore.
theo gave me an unamused look as he blocked a jab, "i am. i'm going easy on you because you're always complaining that you suck."
"excuses, excuses," i muttered, before suddenly attacking.
theo parried my blade away, and we continued fighting.
"c'mon theo," i said, trying to get him annoyed. "is that all you got?"
theo suddenly switched to offense, and the smile fell off of my face. he fought like a whirlwind, stabbing and slashing. i tried my best to parry his attacks away, but he was good. almost as good as percy. (i knew this already, but as his sister, it is my sole duty to annoy him)
with a grunt, our swords met. a rush of blue and red air shot out of his blade and i literally flew backwards.
i landed against some wooden crates — thanks gods they were empty.
i groaned as i rubbed my back. i looked at theo, who just watched in shock. he looked at his hands and back at me repeatedly.
"well?" i called him. "are you just gonna stand there or help me up?"
theo helped me up and apologized profusely, "i don — i don't know what happened. i'm so sorry. i didn't even know i could do that. did i do that? are you okay? did y—"
"i'm fine, theo," i assured my brother. "that was so cool! did mom give you another power?"
"what pow—"
"theo! riley!" chiron's voice sounded from across the arena.
he dismissed his class and trotted over. theo and i shared nervous glances. he looked angry, and i had no idea why.
