stark expo
flushing, new york
end of february
"no. put it on that side," i told jim.
we were at the site of the stark expo in flushing, new york. the stage was built, ready to go for the first night. the neon sign for the stark expo was being built.
jim, who was placing the first piece of the neon sight on the right side, moved it to the left. if it was on the right, it would be in the flight plan set up by my dad.
"better, miss — uh, riley?" he asked.
"much."
although, i was younger than him, i was technically his superior. he was used to addressing the rich people he worked for and their kids by titles like mr, and miss. when i told him i didn't want to be called that, he nearly tripped.
"red or blue? which one's been finalized?" jim asked, referring to the color of the neon sign.
"well, neither's been finalized. knowing my dad, he'll probably make a last minute decision, but i'm not dealing with that. do the red."
jim nodded, and yelled to his group, "red!"
the workers who were with him, took a bunch of pieces — the neon sign — and arranged them on the floor.
i nodded, convinced that jim could handle the rest of this.
"uh... is that a peacock?" jim pointed.
i groaned internally. "can you get someone to shoo it away or something? i don't have the best history with peacocks."
"uh... sure?" jim said, but it sounded like a question.
