After being casted to the sea, thrown off the cruise ship she was on by her own boyfriend, what Zeda thought was her biggest problem turns out to be only the beginning. She's rescued by a foreign man, Lucas, & his two friends Johnny & Winwin. Togeth...
I was alone. I missed Lucas but for the moment, it was nice to be alone. Go over everything going on in my head in silence. It was also scary. Being alone with my thoughts.
My parents had brought some of my clothes from home and laid them out on the bed, along with snacks. I grabbed a tiny bottle of liquor from the mini fridge and mixed it with a soda and sat on the bed, my back on the headboard, and just relaxed.
I finished an entire glass of the drink I made, my mind running wild with thoughts, as usual. I was afraid the police might still twist the narrative and find some way to blame the guys for my disappearance.
Right at 12:30, after a half hour of sitting in my own world I was startled and almost jumped to my feet when the phone rang obnoxiously loudly. I quickly picked it up and held it to my ear.
"Hello?" I answered, but was met with a machine.
'This is a collect call from the Savannah County correctional center from inmate number -'
And then it proceeded to read off a twenty-digit number and it felt like it took four minutes.
Then there was silence. I must have missed this part the first time because my mom had answered. Why were they treating them like prisoners? Criminals?
"Hello?" I heard Winwin say.
"Hey." I replied.
"Zeda?"
"Yeah, it's me, how are you?"
"I'm okay. Very tired." He said very quietly and softly.
"Did you make it back to your hotel?" He asked.
"Yes, how did you know I was in one?"
"I am just assuming. This is most definitely not the mitten state."
I laughed loudly.

"Winwin you are so adorable." I giggled. "Are they being nice to you?"
He sighed. "Kind of. Not ... all of us." He paused.
"They were yelling at us all day. They brought us food eventually, but where my room is I could see the other two guy's doors, and ... I never saw them bring food to Lucas. And they never let him leave that room."
"You think they were treating him worse?"
"I did hear much more shouting coming from his room than Johnny's. He's still in there now, too."
My heart sunk. None of the boys deserved this but to imagine how Lucas must feel, being accused of things he didn't do, and bad things. Kidnapping and apparently rape and murder.
