The next day we went back to the station and the detectives told me that all of our stories lined up well. Johnny's, Winwin's, Lucas's, mine and the deaf woman from the bar. They hadn't talked to Lucas again yet, they were letting him sleep thankfully. So I decided to tell them about the cameras. But of course they already knew, having listened to our call.
"So you heard Vince then?" I asked when they hinted at the fact that they already knew about the cameras on Lucas's ship.
"I'm sorry?" A man said.
"At the end of the call Vince was at my hotel room door. He attacked me."
The men shook their heads.
"Of course you didn't." I sighed.
"Can I see my friends yet?"
One man shook his head.
"And why not?"
"They're still in their rooms."
I sighed.
"Well, Zeda. You're free to go for the day. We're going to go check out those cameras."
I got up and left without saying a word. Even as my parents walked me outside, it was silent until we pulled up to the hotel.
"Well, what do we do now?" My mom asked.
I sighed. "I'm sorry but I really don't want to do anything until the boys are let out. They have no reason to be keeping them there."
"That's okay, honey. You want us to drop you off?"
I spent the rest of the day in my room. I didn't eat, I just lay in bed waiting for the phone to ring.
Vince came by again and was knocking at the door for almost an hour. This time I used my brain and stayed quiet, making him think I wasn't here.
Finally, around eight pm I got a call, and they asked me to come down to the station.
I got up excitedly and rushed over in a cab.
I was greeted in a room by my guys, all sitting together at the end of an oblong table, looking happy and relieved.
"Miss Zeda." Lucas's face lit up and he smiled.

My heart started pumping out of control with excitement.
"Did you guys see the tapes?" I asked.
"Now now, have a seat and we'll talk about everything." An officer said to me and pulled out a chair on its own on the right side of the table. Near Lucas but not next to him.
