It was weeks before I heard from the boys again after dropping them off at the airport.
I wasn't allowed to return to the hospital as long as Vince was there, which was also the entirety of Lucas's time there.
They informed me that Vince would be tried and most definitely convicted of attempted murder, false imprisonment and assault, and if Lucas didn't pull through, he would be charged with murder. No matter what, when he left that hospital, he would be going to prison.
I wanted to feel like we had won but ... did we really?
I spent my days wallowing in my sadness by the phone, terrified that Lucas wouldn't make it. The fact that I couldn't even see him made it so much worse.

I learned later on that Lucas had woken up after about a week, and he stayed in the hospital a long while. He wanted to be well enough to sail back home, he didn't want to fly, and despite their trip already taking months longer than planned, Johnny and Winwin agreed to wait for Lucas and sail back with him. The two spent the next few weeks trying to contact me while Lucas recovered.
I had no phone, my parents had no internet at their house, and I had no money to buy anything. The hospital wouldn't give them my information, so they tried to contact me through the internet, but of course I received nothing.
I was told all of this when they finally found my parents' number, remembering that I had called them from Lucas's phone, which they had to retrieve from police that had taken everything from the scene for evidence.
I answered the call desperately hoping it would be one of them.
"Hello?"
I was caught off guard when I heard none other than Lucas's voice on the other line. My heart fluttered and my stomach filled with butterflies.
"Zeda." He said with a smile.
