Once the building was in sight, they saw Vince screwing on a new door to the barn. They froze in their spot.

The place was decrepit and looked like it could fall apart any minute. The roof was caved in on one side and foliage covered the outside of it. There was no driveway, it was just ten feet from the road. No gates, fences or animals.

"You guys got me all scared now." Chaz said when they stopped walking. "I thought we were just picking her up or something."

"You must not have been paying much attention." Lucas smirked a little, glad the man was finally coming off his high horse.

"Well, you guys didn't tell me you were a part of this big kidnapping thing that happened like last month." Chaz fired back.

"We're gonna have to talk about this later, man." Johnny told him. "All you need to know is, we are not the bad guys."

They walked closer but ended up stopping again, not knowing what to do first.

Vince was just standing in the doorway with a drill, seemingly almost finished securing the new door. This one was made of steel and had a heavy-duty lock on the outside that was currently out of sight. Peering inside they saw a single room with a ladder leading to a loft above.

"You know I can see you guys, right?" Vince said, startling them.

It was silent for a few moments. The boys hadn't figured out what their approach would be yet. They all looked at each other, and Lucas decided to speak up.

"Where is she?" He demanded.

"Calm down, big guy. She's in here." Vince barely glanced at the boys while doing his work.

"Give us one good reason why we shouldn't just kick your ass right now." Johnny threatened him, raising his voice and stepping forward.

"Because you'd be breaking our agreement." Vince said calmly.

"What agreement?" Lucas asked.

"Zeda and I ... came to an agreement."

Vince stopped what he was doing and stepped down from the doorway, making sure to step down onto Zeda's dried blood in the dirt, so the boys wouldn't see it if they hadn't already, and they in fact hadn't.

They were waiting for him to continue his sentence, but he never did.

"Okay? And what was it?" Lucas asked after a minute, already frustrated and fed up with Vince's games.

Every word that left Vince's lips was at a slow pace, him knowing full well the torment he was inflicting on each of the boys with each snail like syllable. He enjoyed every second of it, staring into each of their eyes with a smirk on his face.

"We agreed that .... when you got here .... she was free to go .... and that .... none of us .... would speak of this .... again." He paused. "Just .... forget about it."

Although the guys waited for him to finish speaking before replying, none of them believed him for an instant.

"Oh, really?" Johnny asked, crossing his arms and all the boys shook their heads, also unconvinced.

"Yeah."

"So, you knew we were coming?" Johnny pestered.

Vince nodded. "Of course." He said smugly, and without realizing it he leaned against the wall beside him and revealed a patch of what was beneath his shoes.

Lucas saw it immediately. The blood in the doorway, on the dirty concrete behind Vince, and on the discarded wooden door off to the side of the building. He noticed a ghastly red stained hole in the center with fabric attached to it, fluttering in the wind. His stomach dropped.

"What the fuck?" He mumbled to himself.

He knew he didn't believe Vince. No one did. They knew the tricks he had pulled and the way he manipulates everyone around him to get what he wants. But then a sound came from the barn.

It was Zeda. It was a sound almost like she was squealing, but of excitement. Lucas looked at Vince.

"Go on in." Vince said with a wide smile. "She's waiting for you. She knows you're here."

He knew his plan was working perfectly.

"Get away from the door." Johnny told him.

Vince chuckled, "Don't trust me?"

He set the drill down on the ground, put his hands above his head in surrender and then walked away from the barn. The guys hesitated and looked at each other. They knew it must be a trick. Why would he give up so easily and let her leave with them?

Johnny shook his head, telling the others they should not enter, and Chaz nodded, gesturing that he agreed with Johnny.  But Lucas remained impartial, his gut telling him to go inside.

Maybe Vince was intimidated by their numbers and was giving up without a fight. Four against one almost wouldn't be fair.  He looked to Winwin for his silent input, and received a look of unsureness, and worry.

Again, they heard a sound emit from the barn and Lucas rushed inside. The others looked at each other nervously, and then looked to Vince, who was gesturing for them to follow, which they reluctantly did.

"Zeda!" Lucas called, with no reply.

The boys were walking up behind him, standing in the center of the barn and looking all around. There was nothing and no one on the floor of the barn, so that only left the loft which was out of sight from the ground. Lucas of course rushed to it and began to climb.

"Be careful man." Johnny told him, feeling great dread about everything happening. "This thing looks like it could collapse any minute." He brushed aside dust and dirt flung onto him from under Lucas' feet as he ascended.

"I'm here, Miss Zeda." Lucas called excitedly.

All the boys were now looking up at Lucas, and Vince was walking in, standing and leaning against the doorway. The only exit. He had a grin on his face that the boys didn't see, too occupied by their search for Zeda and their worry for what Lucas might encounter in that loft. Lucas reached the top with a big smile.

"Baby, I-" He stopped when he turned and found nothing but an old fashioned boxy tv plugged into an extension cord.

His heart dropped. Playing on it was the police tapes of Lucas's ship with grainy old-fashioned quality, the lines running down the screen like it was on a VHS. Zeda and Lucas in the pool.

"Kiss me, Lucas." She said on the screen.

Lucas turned the TV off quickly and glanced to the door, realizing Vince's trick that he fell for so easily.

He felt so foolish. He shook his head and looked down to his feet in defeat, knowing something terrible was about to happen, and he had dragged his friends along with him to endure the same fate.
