The message did in fact reach the eyes it was meant to, pinging on Johnny's phone while he and the others were on their ship, waiting for the rain to stop so they could unload and go home. They still had the entire trip back to endure. Which would be about three weeks.

Johnny wiped his eyes and had to do a double take, not believing what he thought he had seen. His mouth agape and his eyes astounded, the words became clear, and he felt instant guilt knowing he would have to pass on the repugnant message.

He let out a sigh and got to his feet, phone in hand, and went to Lucas's door. It whipped open.

"Zeda?" Lucas said eagerly but was crushed at the sight of Johnny alone in the hall.

*C* "Hey, man. It's her in a sense... there's ... something I ... need to show you."

Lucas could sense Johnny's dread, and he tensed up.

*C* "Is she okay?"

Johnny nodded. *C*"She is fine but .... I got this text."

*C* "Text? She hadn't gotten a phone yet. How would she so quickly?"

*C* "It uh ... it wasn't from her."

Lucas felt a pit form in his stomach as Johnny turned his phone to reveal them together, hand in hand. He couldn't believe his eyes.

Johnny could read the pure despair on Lucas's face, snatching the phone from his hands for a closer look. He let him take it without protest.

"I'm so sorry."

They both stood there while Lucas stared at the screen, dumbfounded.

"But ... why?" He finally managed to say with a weak voice.

Johnny gave a sympathetic shrug. "I dunno man. Maybe something happened."

Lucas shook his head and felt the anger and despair welling up inside of him.

*C* "Fuck!" He pounded his fist against the wall. *C* "I knew it. I knew I messed up. I'm no better than him." He shook his head profusely.

*C* "Don't say that." Johnny told him.

Lucas must have forgotten the phone wasn't his, because he slid it into his pocket, grabbing his wallet from the end table and his sweater from the chair.

*C* "I should have known it was too good to be true." He muttered.

He slid the jacket on and walked right past Johnny, through the hall, and up the stairs to the deck, where the rain was still pouring down.

"Where do you think you're going in this storm?" Johnny asked but received no answer.

"Hey!" He called again. *C* "You still have my phone!" "Dude!"

He rushed after him, seizing his own coat from his room before hustling through the hall.

*C* "Winwin! We're going out, if you don't wanna be left alone we gotta go right now." He called to him through a closed door as he slid the jacket onto his back.
