chan had sped to the hospital. when reaching inside the building with a shaking and crying adult in his arms, he got many stares. to him that did not matter. he was scared and crying himself, and had not a single clue what was happening and that terrified him. for all he knew hyunjin could be dying.

"nurse nurse! please help he's shaking and crying and his nose has been bleeding for 30 minutes, he can't hold up his head by himself and his vision is—what i-is happening!?" chan's words were rushed and scrambled together. his mind was hazy as well, trying to keep his composure and not breakdown completely.

weather or not you have a good relationship with one being, does not mean you aren't prone to heavy emotions such as fear, or even heartache when they could be possibly in much danger. that's just human instinct.

"sir, i'm going to need you to calm down. what's his name?"

"hyunjin—hwang hyunjin."

"can i get a stretcher!" she called out. a nurse from down the hall immediately responded by rolling the bed to them. chan then set the addict on the bed and watched them roll him off while he was held back. "sir, i'm going to need you to come with me and answer some questions for me while they do scans and blood tests, can you do that for me?"

chan only nodded. for that same humanly instinct reason, he wanted to be with hyunjin right now. to see what they were doing to him, how they were treating him in this state. next thing he knew, he was in a hospital room he presumed would be hyunjins when they were finished running tests on his body. he sat down in one of the chairs while two people stood and began to question his crying self. one man, who was a doctor, and one woman, who was a nurse.

"first, what is your relationship with the patient?"

what was his relationship with hyunjin? honestly he had not a single clue. was he going to say enemy or would that just make the situation seem off? he could say roommate, because technically he was at the moment. "friend. i-i'm his friend." it seemed like the best answer to give.

"okay and how long were these symptoms going on for?"

"um kinda like 3 days? but that was just the headache and stomach pains. the other stuff is new."

"alright, and do you have any idea how these symptoms could have started? has he been taking care of himself or—"

"he's a heroin addict...but—but he's been trying to get better and this is the most sober he's been in five years." chan only hoped by telling the doctors this problem they wouldn't arrest the boy for possession of illegal substances or anything of that sort. he hoped he was doing hyunjin well by telling them the truth.

his mind wondered to how people...even him in the past found addicts less human than others, some viewing them as monsters. would hyunjins medical treatment be less important to the hospital knowing he was taking drugs?

"alright, thank you sir. we will get back to you when we know more"

"wait! i mean please wait, i understand that because he's an addict he may be put aside if there is another patient who is healthy with the same symptoms, but that doesn't make his life any less important. and if anyone should have learned that sooner its me. so please do what you can. i assure you there's someone under the mess he is right now who is capable of anything and everything we are. so please. make sure he's okay."

the doctor was left in shock by how desperate someone sounded for an addict. as for the nurse, she felt pity for chan, thinking he was "wasting his time trying". but that's just how society's brains are wired. nonetheless the two nodded and left after saying "we will do what we can." weather it was the truth or not, chan had no idea.

he could only hope they meant what they had said.

...

chan sat in the room for a little over an hour before a doctor finally came in to update him on the situation. "sir, it looks like your friend will be just fine. he simply had severely high blood pressure due to withdrawal symptoms. symptoms like these don't usually occur until 5-10 days after the last dosage, but it seems at such a young age thats not the case."

chan looked up from the ground in relief. he's gonna be okay. "how long will he be staying here?"

"well, we'll need to keep him on an IV drip for a day and run some more tests tomorrow morning in case any organs are failing. but that's not something that seems likely from what we've seen so far." chan nodded and watched the doctor make way towards the exit. "oh and one last thing, he should be brought back to this room in a little under an hour. he won't be awake since we put him under, but if he has any family that would want to be here when he wakes up, i suggest you inform them on the situation."

once again chan nodded and stared down at his phone. he knew hyunjins parents weren't an option. the only person he could think of that hyunjin thought of as family was felix. although there were more people who cared for him, hyunjin just didn't know it.

so chan sent a message out to all the people he thought would be interested in coming for the addicts support. even if hyunjin didn't believe he was cared for, chan hoped that this might help. to help show him that there are people willing to fight for him, he just has to come to understand and cooperate.

and chan believe the addict had gone through enough to show him that, he was ready. ready to fight for his sobriety and a healthier, happier life.
