The Other Side

Escalation

Location: GATE D, Earth side

Time: 0945 local time

Loudspeaker: All civilians please remain in your vehicles and shield yourselves. There is an active attack on the checkpoint. Those of you able to leave by vehicle do so immediately.

Melgan: Who the fuck is attacking the GATE?

Lent: No idea but grab a rifle.

They piled up rifles and ran outside to see other CEM officers in a gunfight with what looked to be special forces soldiers. They two joined the gunfight as Jasper prepared a sniper rifle.

Officer: 7-Zulu-9 to dispatch, ETA on our 32s?

Radio: ETA 4 minutes. Hold out until then.

A squad NO soldiers ran up from the GATE to provide support to the officers. Sirens got closer and a highway patrol helicopter flew over. Multiple officers were injured at this point as the firefight continued. The helicopter had a SWAT team in the back which would fire out of an open door whenever it passed. On the third pass one of the attacking soldiers fired an RPG at the rear and the helicopter went into a spiral.

Radio: Mayday, mayday, we have been hit by a rocket! Rear of the bird is gone!

The helicopter slammed into the snow and flames spread around the wreck. Two off the troopers in the back climbed out and dragged the pilots and another trooper out of the wreck. One of them treated injuries while the other provided covering fire.

A few NOHP cars arrived and troopers stepped out only for another RPG shot to impact the line of patrol cars. At this point the CEM officers were being overwhelmed by whoever the attacking soldiers were and while they did manage to take out some of them it wasn't enough. Some of the attackers climbed into SUVs and an armored black box truck rammed the burning NOHP cars out of the way. The two SUVs and the box truck made a b-line for the GATE and the last CEM officers opened fire. Jasper took a pot shot with a 50 cal and obliterated one of the SUV's engines causing it to roll into the snow and the other two approached the last checkpoint.

It looked like the vehicles would ram straight through and get to Remnant but a saving grace known as an attack helicopter arrived. The helicopter fired a missile at the box truck causing the entire thing to explode and the lead car was ripped apart by the 20mm gun. Soon other military helicopters flew in and landed. Soldiers took control and NOID teams arrived.

An investigation was started and all of the attacking soldiers that weren't obliterated were identified as Chinese military personnel. The issue now was what do you do if a bigger country launches an attack like this. War would be the first choice but it could have the undesired effect of starting a nuclear conflict. Another option was a counter attack discreetly but if that failed then NO forces would be blamed for everything and a war would still start but with much less NATO support to New Orderia. The final option was doing what the US did with Korea, put together a task force and keep the combat small. NO high command opted for the final option. The UN agreed that what China did was an attack on peace and NATO was sent in. China in response took complete control of Hong Kong which after another war(that may or may not have been started by New Orderians) was its own nation. Taiwan was almost attacked but US forces offered a deterrent. Further investigation proved that the Chinese were funding the insurgency in New Orderia. This was also made public and aided in support of the war globally.

WAR: Fighting has begun between New Orderia and China, the second NO-China war seems to have begun. One week ago Chinese special forces attacked NO law enforcement and military personnel guarding a facility. The skirmish claimed the lives of 16 NO heroes and 5 Chinese soldiers. Early this morning the United Nations allowed NATO intervention in China and it is rumored the Chinese plan on attacking Hong Kong which was liberated from Chinese oppression in the first NO-China war. Some experts worry this conflict could escalate to a fully blown world war. NOID officials have been tight lipped but an anonymous source claims that China has been funding the insurrection that has claimed thousands of NO lives.

2 months later:

Location: Hong Kong, which the New Orderian 87th armor(formerly the 8th Atlesian armor)

Nero: NO 87th armor to USMC 1st Raiders, we have eyes on a opfor tank column approaching from the south east of your position.

Radio: Solid copy 87th.

Nero's tank fired a shell towards the lead tank and the Marines fired an AT-4 to the rear tank. The middle tanks were fired on by Marines and NO tanks. A UK convoy was behind the 87th and it was their objective to reach a military base that the Chinese lost in the first NO-China war.

As the convoy continued there was minimal conflict, occasionally they would pass a Chinese patrol which would quickly be taken care of by the line of machine guns. Eventually they reached the base to see tons of Chinese soldiers. The tanks lined up and UK forces moved in. The  NO tanks fired at any Chinese armor and opened fire with the 50 cals on any soldiers or vehicles. The firefight lasted 20 minutes and ended when UK Royal Marines threw a Chinese flag off the roof and raised a NATO flag in its place.
