Major Kinsler, NO Security Division, Dalnax Branch. Kinsler is rather important, his actions will eventually lead to his promotion to SecDiv Commissioner and assignment to the National Security Council, although the actions in 2185 are less than glamorous. Kinsler's rank currently however is still rather important, he is the supreme law enforcement authority within Dalnax and all surrounding parts of the frozen wastes. Unfortunately he only has law enforcement skills, it barely extends past that, he will quickly learn Dalnax can't be maintained by enforcing.

A/N: I used "suspect" instead of "insurgent" a lot, this is because everyone here is a cop and they don't use military terms. Just keep in mind that these suspects are the same insurgents from every other chapter about Dalnax.

Location: DPD checkpoint, 2 days into the fighting.

By day 2 things had devolved enough that all law enforcement units were ordered to don full body armor, arm themselves with the best weapons they had access to, and prepare to protect any civilians. Kinsler choose to not evacuate and join in on the defense.

Radio: 6th PCT detectives to command, 10-99, we got ambushed!

Kinsler: This is Major Kinsler, what is your location?

Radio: We are pinned down on 53rd and Avalon! At least 4 suspects, armed with automatic rifles, we have two officers from patrol down!

Kinsler: Help is coming, just hold out until we arrive.

Kinsler grabbed a shotgun from a table, racked the slide and jumped into the back seat of a SecDiv patrol car while various officers from the DPD and SecDiv jumped into other vehicles. Two officers jumped into the front of the car Kinsler was in and the driver slammed his foot on the gas. The multiple patrol cars, Kinsler's being the lead one, sped away and a SWAT MRAP pulled out behind them. After two painfully long minutes they turned a corner and saw smoke rising from a block away.

As the patrol cars approached a series of shots tore into the hood and windshield of the SecDiv patrol car carrying Kinsler causing the officers in front to duck down while the car came to a halt.  The doors opened and the officers stepped out as bullets flew overhead. By this point the patrol car they were hiding behind was burning itself and the officers made a break for a nearby office building, it's windows having been shattered during the gunfight.

Kinsler fired a series of shots with his pistol, the shotgun wouldn't be very effective at this range even if there wasn't injured officers between him and the suspects, to cover the other officers' movement. With the officers in safety Kinsler got out of cover and sprinted towards the broken window himself, a bullet impacted his helmet and the tinted visor turned into a spiderweb of cracks. He got into cover and lifted the visor up before looking at the various other police officers in the room. As they regrouped a patrol car in the line detonated as an RPG scored a direct hit, luckily the officers had gotten away before the impact.

Kinsler: Is anyone injured?

The various officers in the room called out all clear while a SWAT medic checked over the few officers who had taken hits, eventually everyone's status was confirmed and Kinsler began making a strategy.

Kinsler: I think it is safe to say we need to find a way out of here, normally I'd call for backup and a helicopter but that isn't an option if the suspects have RPGs. Next best thing is going around the side and trying to get the jump on them.

The officers readied their gear and began to move through the alleyways behind a ballistic shield as they heard the occasional gunshot ring out from pinned down officers and the suspects. Eventually the group reached the area they needed to flank the suspects, they SWAT officers turned the corner first with their rifles raised to engage the terrorists.

The next few seconds for Kinsler were a blur.

Machine gun fire from some mounted gun tore through the shield like it was paper, the officers behind it were ripped to sheds instantly. Almost immediately after an RPG impacted on the wall just behind where they officers had turned at, the shockwave threw officers onto their backs and the blast maimed various personnel who were too close. The surviving officers stood up and one went to drag a wounded officer into cover only for him to get shot in the head with a sniper rifle, the round penetrating though one side of his helmet, passing through his skull, and exiting through the other. Kinsler waved his arm, signaling for the officers to get clear as his ears rang, the muffled sound of gunshots being the only thing he could even notice.

Gradually the ringing died down and his hearing returned, then it became clear how bad things were. The police officers were barely organized at this point and Kinsler himself realized he was bleeding from a shrapnel wound. Another officer grabbed him from the back of his Kevlar vest and began to drag him away from the alley. Officers around him just did nothing, panicked beyond belief and having no training for this situation.

Normal patrol officers, DPD nonetheless. SecDiv officers at least got a decent bit of counter terror training, but even then it was more for mass shootings and the weapons in insurgent hands were at most assault rifles with the occasional bomb mixed in. RPGs and DShKs weren't even considered, let alone practiced against.

With not a single officer still alive having the bare minimum needed to get by here Kinsler ordered for the officers to pull out and just hope for the best. The dead and dying officers in the line of fire had to be left behind. Kinsler listened to his radio as officers called out who was still alive, then which of those units were uninjured. It was unfortunately next to none, most officers were gone or unable to keep fighting.

Kinsler: All units be advised, we need all units within PCT 6 to abandon their patrols and report to the nearest checkpoint in neighboring precincts. Bring what equipment you can, leave the rest. MRAPs and APCs are needed the most, prioritize those over patrol cars. Also be warned, the suspects have RPGs.

The various police units still in the area gave their replies as a police officer smashed the window of a parked sedan and began to hotwire it. Another officer opened the back door and loaded Kinsler along with a few other badly injured officers into the back before getting into the front passenger seat. The car's motor spooled up and the officers closed the doors before driving away,

Despite everyone's best efforts the 6th precinct had fallen into anarchy.
