Location: NO trench, Reality number 79, with the 3rd Siege division

POV: Alcos, prior to his addition to Kilo

So the army isn't exactly like the recruitment ad said. To be fair I don't think anyone expects to be tossed into a muddy jungle around a city that you have placed under siege. The army says there is something in there that we need, something about an asset to recover. Today we are finally leaving this trench and charging towards this city.

The city is really more of a nation with how big it is and how hard it has been to capture. These fuckers know magic or some shit. Funny enough my brother was the scientist testing on these things. He found out a lot doing those tests, tough as fuck, some can withstand fire. Really there are a bunch of abominations in this city that we are trying to figure out information about. How do I know all that? My brother used his position to relay important information to me through letters. If the top scientist wants a letter given to a soldier who is going to yell at him, especially when he is friends with the leader of the nation.

Commander: Go!

We all climbed out of the trench as jets flew over. We walked at first which turned into a job before a sprint as machine guns and magical bullshit fired on us. Luckily CAS is great at dealing with shit like this so when I saw two jets dive towards a pillbox I knew I was going to live.

The 20mm gun opened up and thousands of pounds of explosives rained on the enemy positions as we took cover. When the explosions stopped we walked towards the burning wall and cleared any remaining defenses. Despite some of these things being immune to fire flamethrowers are still used for clearing pillboxes so as I approached I saw fire spit out bunker.

I got closer and heard distant screams that were drowned out by gunfire and explosions. I ignored it and continued toward the city with my squad. Oh fuck I didn't introduce them. We have Sarge, who is a sergeant, Dezmos who is our breacher, me who carries the LMG, and Doc who is our medic. Doc is still able to kill you though, he does have a rifle. Our 4 man squad is currently walking towards burning buildings.

Honestly if the things living here weren't abominations I would love to live here. Pretty cozy, warm, colorful. It just seems peaceful, as long as you ignore the destroyed everything that is. But these fuckers took an asset back so everything has to go. I noticed a small opening into a basement of what looked like it was an apartment at some point. I have heard stories of what can happen with holes like that so I tossed in a frag grenade.

Me: Fire in the hole!

The grenade went off and I heard a pained noise as smoke came from the hole.

Demos: Nice one. Did you hear about the squad in the first day of Dalnax who got ambushed through a hole like that? Half the squad was killed, and it was a 9 man one, not a 4 or 5 like ours.

Me: Yeah, that's why I did it, I'm not dying in some different universe.

We kept walking as gunfire echoed through the streets. We had spent a lot of time getting even close to victory and we still had miles to go until we reach anything of value. Small towns had been taken over the past two months so for us to actually see the inside of the city is amazing. The enemy had tried to demoralize us the entire way by dropping in videos of them using magic on POWs or by showing how little we had done with shitty graphs. They said it would take another two years to conquer the city. Look at us now, advancing down a main road with no resistance.

I fucking jinxed it. A strategic bomber just crashed ahead of us. Apparently the enemy got their shot together and fired a metric fuck ton of flak into the sky and took out the bomber. We ran towards the crashed bomber and Desmos used his breaching tool to get us in. The inside was bad. The injured crew members were trying to deal with their injuries and to handle the fire. Where was that fire you may ask? Next to a bunch of 500 pound bombs is where.

So we carried the injured crew out to Doc who was treating them as best as he could. Sarge had broken into a box truck and hot wired it. He was loading the injured into the back so we could run from the burning explosives before we became a statistic. When everyone was out of the plane we hopped into the truck and drove away. As we drove I saw a flash and the shockwave almost knocked over the truck. The fireball shot into the sky and debris rained down.

Crewman: Holy shit! We survived!

We continued driving back towards the nearest NO command post when we saw an issue. We had been surrounded. I was riding shotgun at this point so guess who's job it was to do a drive by on abominations from another universe. Me! So I climbed so I was sitting on the door and held up my LMG. I held down that fucking trigger as a hundred rounds of 7.62 launched themselves at unsuspecting enemies. We drove past and I could hear Desmos and Doc firing their rifles after we had pasted.

I gave a sigh of relief as we exited the city and stopped at a command post.

Major: What the fuck are you doing back here soldiers? Did I order a god damned retreat?

Sarge: Sorry sir, we found a injured bomber crew and came here to get them treated.

Major: Get those men to the corpsmen and get back to the front.

Sarge: One more thing sir, when we were coming back we noticed some enemies had encircled us, it is possible other squads have been cut off.

Major: Good work bringing this to my attention, if that is the case wait until the next wave goes, we need everything at once or we could just lose more.

We fucked off and waited for the next push, the other squads up front halted their advance and waited for their order to attack.

Pretty good for one day in this shit hole.
