The Capital Burns

Location: New Orderlands, "Midtown"

Loudspeaker: This is the NOPD, protocol 1 is being enacted, stay indoors and away from windows, the city is under attack.

Air raid sirens blared as military forces deployed to combat the invasion. The Chinese military had launched a counter attack with the insurgency using this as an opportunity to overthrow the government. New Orderlands, Malask, and Rank city were all being attacked at once. Rank was the smallest of them all and had a nearby military base, what the real problem was the two largest cities in the nation being attacked simultaneously with one military base to hold off the attackers.

The police car stopped as Chinese paratroopers dropped from the sky. When they landed they opened fire on civilians and the two police officers.

Officer: Get inside now!

The officer opened fire on the nearest paratrooper while his partner ran to the back to grab their rifle. The two held off the attackers when a rifle poked out of a building and opened fire on the Chinese forces.

A group of civilians with weapons ran out and got the police officers inside while said officers reported the paratroopers to dispatch. More Chinese soldiers attacked the apartment building they were hiding in while the officers and armed civilians tried to defend the other civilians. The walls were being riddled with bullet holes as the building was overwhelmed.

(From now on any armed civilian fighting for New Orderia will be called Militia, insurgents are still working with the Chinese)

Militia member: Over here!

The militia member fired a shotgun into a brick wall a few times to break a gap large enough to head to the neighboring building. Him and one of the officers climbed through and headed across the next apartment building. When they got to the end of the block they got onto the fire escape and ambushed the Chinese soldiers.

The Chinese forces panicked when they began taking fire from behind, they had been encircled and started to retreat while police officers and militia members continued to fire. The fighting had taken a toll however, the other officer with four militia members were injured and two more militia members had died. At this point only one officer and two militia members were uninjured.

2 hours later:

The cars on the street were burning and smoke filled the air as explosions rocked the city. Down the street was a line of Chinese tanks. After stabilizing the injured and writing down the location and names of the dead they group decided to evacuate. The tanks hadn't noticed them yet but were pointing their guns at the buildings nearby. Clearly the surviving paratroopers had reported the location and this was an attempt to kill them off. The police radio had gone dead the hour prior so help was not coming.

Militia member: Right here, bus about a block down the street.

Officer: Can we get everyone there before that convoy reaches us?

Militia member: I think so, your patrol car works still right? It didn't get hit to badly.

Officer: I just might work.

The only reason this plan would work is the fact all NOPD patrol cars were electric, as long as the lights were off, which was easy because they had been shot out, they wouldn't be noticed through the haze. The police car shuttled the injured while anyone who could jogged to the bus. 

When they got there they almost opened fire on a group of soldiers peaking around the corner who were also about to shoot them.

Soldier: How are you alive? Chinese fucks have been executing civies.

Civilian: Some militia members and two cops defended us, a bunch of Chinese tanks are coming, we are trying to evacuate using the bus.

The police car rolled up with the last injured person and the militia member defending him and the officer helped the injured man into the bus.

Soldier: Alright, we are going with you, there are only 5 of us and our AT rifleman got domed by a sniper.

The soldiers got into their NOLAV and escorted the bus while the militia members pointed rifles out of the windows. Plenty of buildings were burning with the occasional abandoned police roadblock that almost always had a crushed patrol car or two.

The two vehicles got stopped by a group of NO soldiers defending a checkpoint on 1st blvd.

MP: What are you doing?

Soldier: Escorting these civies out of the battlefield sir,

MP: Why did you abandon your post?

Soldier: AT rifleman was killed and tanks were coming, everyone but us 5 were killed by an IED 30 minutes prior. These civies had tons of injured and we decided they were more important than our burning checkpoint.

MP: Good work then soldier. Escort them to the capital building, FDNO is doing triage and the helipad is being used to get civies to the 1st fleet.

Soldier 2: RPG!

A NOLAV guarding the checkpoint burst into flames as an RPG impacted and flipped the truck. Gunfire broke out between the Chinese/insurgents, and NO forces. The MP started waving them through the checkpoint while yelling.

MP: Go! Go! Go! Get them out of here!

The MP grabbed his rifle and opened fire while the two vehicles sped away from the checkpoint

Soldier 3: Checkpoint 27 to central, we are being overrun, requesting CAS!

Radio: Affirmative C-27, mark hostile with purple smoke and friendlies with blue.

A soldier threw a smoke grenade and ran back towards cover while bullets whizzed past.

Soldier 3: Anything north of the purple smoke is a target!

After the vehicles got a block away the sound of jets flying over and the sound of explosions filled the air as bombers flew over and carpet bombed the street. Behind them the road was burning as NO soldiers fired into the flames.

The surrounding city was equally bad, this was the first good look they got, fire raged across the capital city and planes were engaged in dogfighting across the skies. Bombers would occasionally fly over and obliterate an entire street and the arcing shots of artillery went from one part of the city to another and ended in a fiery explosion. On the way to the capital building they passed a few more soldiers and military vehicles which only waved them in towards the building.
