Wei Ying stripped off his outer robes almost carelessly, dropping them on the floor. He climbed into bed, his eyes unseeing and staring into space.

Lan Zhan came around and picked them up, folding them neatly and placing them on the table. He put away both their boots properly and took his own outer robe off.

Then instead of lying down next to his husband, he sat down cross-legged next to his husband.

"Wei Ying?"

Nothing. Not even a blink.

"Wei Ying?"

He waved his hand in front of Wei Ying's face.

He must be thinking about something very serious if he was so distracted...

Lan Zhan resorted to picking him up and having him lying across his lap.

To feel the weight of him, the realness of Wei Ying, happily heavier than he had once been, a mere shell of the man, even the boy Lan Zhan had fallen in love with. In those sixteen years without him, Lan Zhan had spent much of that time living in regret, regret for all the times they had walked away from each other, sometimes not amicably, mostly due to himself, his inability to get his point across in a manner that Wei Ying would perceive as an attempt to help him, instead of the contempt he believed Lan Zhan guilty of.

But more than that, when he had to carry Wei Ying on the rare occasions, his weight, or lack of it, had been most concerning.

Now at least, that was one less worry.

This sort of time happened so rarely these days, especially if they were away from the Jingshi, that he felt lost if he wasn't touching Wei Ying in some way. The fact that they were actually alone in such a long time was something to be treasured.

Very gently, Lan Zhan traced the shape of his brow, his perfect nose and squishy cheeks, the softness of those covering his high cheekbones, his ready-to-smile mouth, and those soft, soft lips, the curve of his chin...Wei Ying was so beautiful, all the different parts of him.

So absorbed in his meditation-like concentration was he, that he was startled when Wei Ying cupped his face, the warmth of his hand resting on his supple cheek.

"My love?"

"Mn?"

"What are you doing? I mean...not that it isn't nice..."

Silver eyes looked back at him, questioningly. They drifted towards his red ears, before Wei Ying smiled and lifted his mouth, wanting to be kissed.

Of course, Lan Zhan bent down and touched his lips with his own, tasting the sweetness and warmth that was Wei Ying personified. He closed his eyes to better feel the smoothness, and the resulting fire slowly burning, a pleasant heat that started in his belly, reminiscent of his early attractions to Wei Ying.

It spread slowly like melting sugar, strong and sweet, reaching everywhere until there was no separation between them. A liquid warmth that felt all encompassing, wrapping around the both of them.

Wei Ying lifted himself up, his mouth fused to his beloved, trying to taste more of him, until he was physically wrapped around Lan Zhan, his fingers tugging on that headband, feeling the silky softness of the ribbon, the strength that embodied Lan Zhan himself.

"That was lovely." Wei Ying rested his head against Lan Zhan's shoulder. "Are you alright, Lan Zhan?"

"Mn. Now. I am fine." He smiled and stroked Wei Ying's soft hair, untangling the red ribbon and loosening it so it fell in cascading waves down his back.
