Wei Ying woke slowly to soft kisses all over his face. He giggled because Lan Zhan was being particularly adorable and even with his eyes closed, he could imagine the intensity and utter absorption the Jade would have on his face even on such a fun task as this.

"Good morning...actually good night, my love." He opened his eyes to find Lan Zhan staring at him full of adoration.

He leaned in for another kiss, this time far more passionate than those earlier tame ones, the earlier ones having no other purpose than to wake him...but this...this was wild.

Wei Ying could not help the sounds coming out of his mouth, as Lan Zhan became more intense. There was no dancing between their tongues, no, this was a fight for dominance, a battle of wills as each sought to satisfy each other. As fights go, this one was built upon love that would be shared, because by making the other happy, the self was happier.

Lan Zhan tried to hold him down, intent on exploring the heavenly delights within his mouth, but Wei Ying decided to test his strength and was so surprised when he was able to flip them over that now, he was lying on top of a breathless and slightly wide-eyed husband. They both tried to catch their breath, their eyes fixed only upon one another.

Wei Ying framed his face and kissed him again, this time much gentler.

"I love you so much, my Lan Zhan. Sometimes...it is shocking to me." He laid his head above Lan Zhan's heart, enjoying the uneven beating return to normal.

"Mn?"

Wei Ying was still a little sleepy and he tucked his face in the crook of Lan Zhan's neck, smiling when his strong arms came around him to hold him tighter.

"Just how much I love you. You take care of me so well...no one's ever done that for me before..." He sighed, feeling delightfully relaxed.

"Wei Ying should always be looked after." He sounded almost smug about it.

"But sometimes I think the scales are heavily balanced in your favour."

"I like taking care of Wei Ying." Lan Zhan replied softly.

Wei Ying stayed quiet, sensing more.

"There was a time when I thought I would never get the chance...again."

How bleak life must have felt to him, then. Wei Ying shivered, wondering if the tables had turned, would he have been strong enough to continue? To wake up every day and force himself out of bed...to meditate, to feed the bunnies...to look after A-Yuan...he didn't know. He would like to think that yes, he would have for their son's sake...but truly...Lan Zhan was a pillar of strength.

He sniffed.

Lan Zhan felt the wetness of his undershirt and sat up, holding Wei Ying closer, one hand at the back of his head and the other at Wei Ying's back.

"That time has gone. No need to mourn."

"I don't know if I could have done the same. You're so much stronger than I am, Lan Zhan."

"I paid back to the Universe...and it rewarded me. Wei Ying came back." With his thumb, he tenderly wiped Wei Ying's eyes, kissing them after.

"Not out of choice...can you imagine, what if Huaisang never got his hands on my notes? Or if Mo XuanYu chickened out...we never would have gotten our second chance."

"Not true." Lan Zhan told him, his voice full of assured confidence.

"Huh?"

"I believe we are meant to be together. We would have found our way back to each other."

"You really think so?" Wei Ying sniffed again, smiling.

"Mn."

"Okay...then I believe you. It makes me feel so much better."

Lan Zhan kissed his forehead.

"It is time. Night has fallen."

"How can you tell?"

"Body clock."

"I've been meaning to ask you, how is it for you...these days, come nine o'clock, you're supposed to be in bed and asleep. Has it been difficult for you to adjust?" Wei Ying looked at him with concern.

"Not so bad. Like going on night hunts, but every night." He smiled. "I am okay."

Wei Ying leaned forward and kissed his nose. "Such a trooper." He sighed. "I guess we should get ready to leave, huh?"

"Wei Ying is sad?" He asked cautiously.

"No...not sad...just that this was nice. And unexpected. Do you feel better?"

"Mn. Always happy with Wei Ying." He rose, still carrying Wei Ying, taking them to the bathroom.

Afterwards, they dressed and left the tent, Wei Ying looking back fondly at the place they had spent the night.

Their timing was excellent as the ladder unfolded right next to them, and the children came down, amid a flurry of silver and iridescent wings. Rumi ran towards his parents closely followed by Li XiWang. Kisses in greetings were exchanged, and then one of the night fairies came near to Wei Ying.

"Where are you going, Immortals?"

"We must find a circle of mountains, further south. Have you heard of Hou Quan? Or the Ju Xing Valley? Or the Five Fingers of NianLing?" Wei Ying asked her, hoping she did.

"We do not travel further south than this. The temperatures become too high and unbearable for us, so we like to stay within flyable distance to the North. But if you intend to travel further in that direction, beware. We have heard talk of unrest...though we are not certain of what nature." She bowed.

Another fairy came to greet them, bowing with respect as she hovered.

"It was such a pleasure for us to spend the day with your children. We have gifts for them if you will permit it."

Wei Ying smiled with pleasure, proud of his children, and nodded.

The fairy handed a glass flute to both, Li XiWang's was clear yet flashing with an iridescent shine, and Rumi's flute was black.

"WingAnLaZhan?" He said, pointing at Chenqing, and smiling.

"Yes, it is like mine." Wei Ying told him proudly.

They all bowed to each other.

"Safe travels and we hope to meet you again someday."

They watched as the fairies flew away back into the dense undergrowth.

There was a huge splash and Dunshi exited from the behind the waterfall, followed by the Flowers of Venus and Dashi.

"If we're all ready, then let's go." Wei Ying looked up at the sky and consulted Lan Zhan. "Which way?"
