Wei Ying, Lan Zhan and Hui Gai returned to Dunshi's cubby hole in good time as he was about to awake.

The others were looking at the latecomers with questions on their faces, but Wei Ying remained tight-lipped about where they had gone and what they went for, instead going straight towards his children and hugging them.

"Breakfast time!" Dunshi rose and would have gotten up, but Wei Ying motioned Xiao Zei over and asked him to pass a message along.

Xiao Zei nodded and gestured at Dunshi to lift him up before saying something in his ear.

"Meditation? How do I do that?" Dunshi looked almost comical in his confusion.

Wei Ying sighed.

Of course it was too much to expect that the giants knew what it was, or that it was worth pursuing. He handed Rumi back to Lan Zhan, kissing his cheek.

"I'll be right back, my love. We have to delay him going over there right now...it would not do to have him eat breakfast from the same pot as Juda and his cronies."

Lan Zhan’s hand rested on Wei Ying's arm.

"But if you fly...then?" He sounded worried for the first time.

"I'll be fine. I don’t know how much Xiao Zei knows about it, and this sort of thing is best learned directly, wouldn't you say?" Wei Ying gave him a tired smile. "It won't take long, and I'm not going to say don’t worry, because I know you're still going to." As his wings unfurled, he smiled again, mostly to reassure his husband. "We'll deal with the consequences later."

One more kiss, this time on his lips, and Wei Ying flew up to sit on Dunshi's shoulder.

Lan Zhan watched him go, his eyes remaining on his husband. Wei Ying had no trouble arriving, but the flight itself would take much out of his already dwindling strength. He hoped that Dunshi would assist, otherwise Lan Zhan was ready with Bichen.

"My good friend," Wei Ying was saying to Dunshi, as the giant listened intently. "The time will come when we have to leave you soon. I wish to gift you something that will help train your body and your mind so that you will become a great leader of your people."

"Okay." Dunshi smiled at him.

He really was quite a simple person, and this quality of innocence reminded Wei Ying of Wen Ning. That same child-like happiness, the easy acceptance of things and the joy of living was ever present in both, and suddenly Wei Ying missed Wen Ning terribly.

He wanted to return to that cottage outside Cloud Recesses and play with his son, watching his friend spend his days happily with his partner. Their family life was a balm to the wound in his heart for everything Wen Ning had had to suffer in the past.

But Wei Ying forced himself to concentrate. What he was about to teach Dunshi was of supreme importance and would guide him for the future.

"You have to close your eyes and breathe deeply. See your breath as it goes in and out of your lungs. Let's do that ten times." Wei Ying breathed deeply with the giant, feeling a little of his own strength return as his core was activated.

"Ready?" Wei Ying asked.

Dunshi felt ever so peaceful. He had never experienced anything like this. He smiled softly and nodded.

"Now, let's do that again but this time, I want you to imagine a flower here." Wei Ying pointed to the centre of his forehead. "Every time you take a breath in, the flower closes, and when you take a breath out, the flower opens. Okay? Let's try." Wei Ying patiently did the exercise with him.

Sometimes children were able to focus better on simple prompts better and it helped them concentrate, and such was the case with Dunshi.

"How do you feel now, good friend?" Wei Ying asked him.

Dunshi opened his bright eyes, feeling rejuvenated. He stretched up high and grinned at Wei Ying, who was holding on at that unexpected movement.

"I feel great!" He grabbed Wei Ying and Xiao Zei in each of his hands and whirled around in circles.

Wei Ying, having had that happen to him already once before, closed his eyes immediately.

"Now, now, Dunshi, didn't we say you weren't going to do that?" He shouted, feeling Lan Zhan’s presence nearby.

Dunshi stopped immediately and put them both down, contrite.

"Wei WuXian, I am very happy." He said in a monotonous voice, and then scratched his golden curls. "I still don't see it..."

"There, at least he didn't kiss me again!" Wei Ying was trying to placate an angry husband.

Lan Zhan was glaring at the giant, and as far as he was concerned, they couldn't leave fast enough. Dunshi was the only one he knew who had taken such liberties with his husband and survived.

"How does Wei Ying feel now?" Lan Zhan took his wrist and felt his pulse again. With his other hand, he checked Wei Ying’s temperature.

Still nothing was detected.

"I'm actually alright." Wei Ying replied, surprised. "I think the meditating really helped." He grinned at Lan Zhan. "I forgot to tell him one more thing, okay? Just a second..." He flew up before Lan Zhan could catch him or stop him.

"Dunshi, I forgot to tell you. You have to do those breathing exercises every morning after you wake up. Every day, without fail. And every week, add five more. Alright?"

Dunshi grabbed him and planted a slobbering kiss on him.

Wei Ying groaned internally, wondering how he was going to explain it this time...
