Hui Gai looked decidedly...naughty.
"Did you go inside the cave?" Wei Ying asked him.
"Depends..." He hedged.
"On what?" Wei Ying said, a little incredulously. "Either you did, or you didn't...right?"
"Well...the thing is, would you be happy with that? If say...I had gone inside?" Hui Gai grabbed his tail, his thumb fingering the edge of the triangle bit.
"You're safe...obviously...so no, I don't think I'm upset. And why would you think that?" Wei Ying scratched his head, wondering why his demon friend was being so...so weird.
"Nevermind..." Hui Gai grinned, sheepishly.
"So what did you see? In there?" Wei Ying jerked his head towards the huge, black gaping hole.
"Big people...mostly asleep." Hui Gai wasn't looking at him any more...and Wei Ying started to get an idea of what might have happened.
"Alright...if I promise not to yell...Will you tell us what you did? And remember, we both love you...we're not going to be upset...okay?" Wei Ying suddenly felt like a parent admonishing his child...
Which was just strange because none of his children, not Shui, SiZhui, Li XiWang, Rumi or Jin Ling had ever needed being shouted at...
"Alright." Hui Gai agreed easily, his red eyes gleaming shrewdly. He licked his lips and continued. "So I might have incapacitated them..."
"Incapacitated? Meaning?" Wei Ying crossed his arms over his chest.
"Maybe it's better if you don't know..."
"Hui Gai...?" Wei Ying tapped his foot, trying to be patient.
"What? It's called plausible deniability..." He looked affronted.
"Okay...big people...meaning like Dunshi?" Wei Ying tried to explore another avenue of questioning, hoping the demon would be slightly more cooperative.
"Bigger. That cave looks huge, like...I haven't seen anything like it before. And there are quite a few of them too." Hui Gai looked proud of himself.
"Technically we are their guests...we brought their child back." He started to say, but another thought occurred to him.
What if these people had banished Dunshi with ill intent? What if they didn't want him back? And then worse, now what would happen because Dunshi was back?
"What are you thinking?" Hui Gai asked.
"What if they aren't going to welcome Dunshi back?" Wei Ying admitted.
"Well, then..." Hui Gai tapped his chin. "Maybe we shouldn't jump to conclusions...right? You always say we should trust in the Universe..."
"True...and only because it has really worked for me..."
"Why don't we wait for Dunshi to wake up?" Lan Zhan finally said. "See what he thinks about all this. And maybe if those people are awake... We'll be able to see what they're like too."
Wei Ying liked the sound of that. He leaned back into Lan Zhan’s chest, a little heavier than before.
"We can rest for a while." Lan Zhan encouraged, turning him back to their cavern.
"I'm okay." Wei Ying replied, quickly.
"But I am not." Lan Zhan told him, keeping an arm around his waist. "I am tired. I would like to lie down. I would like it even more if my husband were to join me."
These were statements, not allowing for any arguments.
Hui Gai grabbed both of them and transported them back.
Dunshi was still asleep and Xiao Zei opened an eye but closed it as soon as he saw who it was.
"I'm going to play with the kids." Hui Gai said firmly, aiming that at Lan Zhan, who nodded back.
He laid a thick blanket down on the ground and held out his hand for Wei Ying. When they were both lying down, Lan Zhan kissed the top of his head, glad that Wei Ying was not disagreeing any more. He had seen the way Wei Ying had looked, fighting off fatigue again outside...meaning that tonic he had just drank wasn't too effective.
As Wei Ying snuggled closer and sighed, closing his eyes, Lan Zhan began to concentrate on Wei Ying's health by sifting through everything that had happened so far.
Firstly, Wei Ying had been fine when they had flown into the cavern itself, using Hongse's arrays...was it possible that something in the application of them had caused this disturbance in Wei Ying's Qi? After all, messing around with the elements was only something attempted by the masters, and while he wasn't questioning Hongse's capabilities, perhaps this occurrence should not be discounted just yet.
Secondly, those strange insects...Wei Ying had been the only one curious enough to pick one up...was there a possibility that some sort of virus had infected him? Something that could be transferred through skin to skin contact? And why else was it that no one else was affected? And so seriously?
Hopefully this was something that would run its course and filter out through his system naturally, but even so, Lan Zhan just wanted to make sure Wei Ying was alright. So, remembering that time when their cores had recognised each other, and they became Soul-Bonded, he closed his eyes and began to meditate consciously.
He put all his awareness into his core, noting when it hummed pleasantly in return. Then, he made it reach out towards Wei Ying, white tendrils of brilliant whispering energy, probing, searching for its other half.
Wei Ying's white core responded back, humming in reply. And as the tendrils met, embracing each other, Lan Zhan was able to check all of Wei Ying's meridians, his Qi flow, and his energy levels. There didn't seem to be anything wrong.
This was both a relief and a little worrying. Internally, there wasn't anything wrong with Wei Ying's body, but he was never this tired. Not to the point that he needed to sleep other than for recreational purposes...this fatigue was different.
"Sleep..." Wei Ying murmured, lightly tugging on his robes still grasped inside his fists.
"Mn." Lan Zhan brought himself out of his trance and held his husband tighter, hoping that whatever was affecting him would go away without further problems. His Wei Ying had suffered so much already, and Lan Zhan just wanted him to be healthy and happy.
