As I made my way back to the sound booth, a familiar face stood next to Jake. It didn't instantly register to me who he was, until he turned around and glanced at me.
My eyes bulged as I recognized him. Yoongi. Was. Standing. Right. There.
Instantly, the scolding voice in my mind returned. Act natural. Just act natural. Don't slow down. Just go to your seat. It's just a man, talking to another man. No big deal.
Flustered, I found my way back to my friend who seemed oblivious that Yoongi was just a few feet behind her.
"I'm sorry, but do you not see who's behind us right now?" I whispered out of breath.
"Oh, I do," my friend said. "I'm just trying to play it cool. The guys have enough screaming fans as it is, I don't want to add to that."
I raised my eyebrows. This was a different friend than the one who had chased BTS at the airport, trying to get a glimpse of them. When I confronted her with that observation, she pouted her lips.
"Well, that was peer pressure, obviously." She glanced over her shoulder. "Should I go over there, just for Jake, of course," she added. "I mean, that way maybe I could say 'hi' to Yoongi as well."
I shook my head. "No, definitely not. They're probably discussing something about the sound and Jake's at work. You can't bother him right now. Especially with Yoongi there."
My friend sighed. "Yeah, you're right. Of course. But still... this might be our only chance to—"
Movement behind me made me elbow my friend. "Stop talking," I hissed as I noticed someone approaching us. "He's coming."
Yoongi walked passed us and I held my breath as I watched him. He then glanced over his shoulder at us and with a quick nod and his lips twitched in a half smile, he acknowledged us.
The moment was so brief, that in hindsight I could just tell myself I'd imagined it. But my heart was pounding so hard against my chest, almost causing me physical pain, that I couldn't just shrug it off as imagination.
Had I given him a nod or smile back? I must've acknowledged him, too, right? My hand went up to my mouth, as an alarmed voice went off inside my head. Had my mouth been open the whole time?
My cheeks heated up at the thought of how I must've looked. I pressed my hands on my face and bowed down in embarrassment. Just the thought of making eye contact with Yoongi and then realizing I might've just been staring at him like some crazy woman, made me groan inwardly.
When the music started playing again, I forced myself to look up. "Just avoid eye contact," I muttered to myself. "I'll be fine if I can do that."
The seven members appeared and started the dance routine of 'MicDrop', switching the mood completely. It was one of my favorite songs and it seemed impossible to stay seated, though I was trying my hardest to fight against the urge to jump up and start dancing along. Jake's words had been clear: please don't leave your seat.
Though I have already done that when I fled towards the bathroom. I glanced at Jake. And he's still working as though nothing happened so he didn't get into trouble.
Still, I wanted to respect the fact that I was given the unique opportunity to watch BTS rehearse and so many fans outside weren't given that.
I glanced at my friend who did some of the moves to the song while staying seated. As the song 'Save me' started we both raised our arms and did Jimin's famous move. We looked at each other and started laughing.
Then we continued the few dance moves we did know, all while staying seated. As my friend was looking at me and I was looking at her, we didn't notice that the guys were actually walking up the ramp towards the outer stage where we were.
We had so much fun interacting and dancing to the song that for a moment I forgot that we were actually in the presence of the same guys who had given us this beautiful music.
When 'Save me' ended, my friend and I gave each other a high five. "That was so much fun!" said as I sat with my back towards the stage.
My friend laughed and started to speak, when her eyes caught something behind me. Her eyes bulged and I could see her face turning red instantly.
I turned around, looking straight into Tae's eyes as he sat crouched on the edge of the stage, right before us. He chuckled at my expression and stood up.
I thought we'd gotten away with it, and I could go back to just enjoying the music and avoiding eye contact. I thought I could keep myself in check and act as though I was just at home, watching a concert on my laptop.
But when the first notes of 'Bapsae' started, I knew I was doomed.
