Honeymoon

"Ahh, France," Luz sighed dreamily, plopping herself down on the hotel bed. "I've always wanted to come here."

Amity nodded vacantly from across the room. Her gaze was focused on the view from the window. Her amber eyes tracked the birds flying freely in the sky, the miniature-looking people walking down the sidewalks, the cars passing by on the streets. She'd been to the human realm before, but it still felt foreign to her sometimes.

Her eyes moved upwards to the big monument standing proudly in the middle of the city. "Hey, Luz," she called out, her stare not leaving the landscape. "Remind me what that structure is called? The Awful Tower...?"

The latina laughed. "It's called the Eiffel Tower, mi amor. It's the most well-known part of Paris. That and it being the city of love." She bounced herself off the bed and went over to her wife, interlocking their fingers and resting her head on her shoulder.

Amity finally tore her eyes away from the window to smile at her wife. "The perfect place for our honeymoon."

"Yep." Luz grabbed the witch's hands and gently massaged them with her thumbs, meeting her gaze with a grin.

They stayed in that position for a moment, a long, beautiful moment that seemed to stretch on forever. The latina took in Amity's presence, and the near silence around them. It was as if the world had been put on pause, everything still and quiet as they stared into each other's eyes. Luz was the one to break the trance.

"Come on," she said softly. "I want to show you everything."

The two girls wandered around the city, stopping occasionally to admire the scenery and rest. They went to a sweets shop and bought a small package of chocolate, which they shared as they walked. They stopped at a park and stayed there for a bit, enjoying each other's presence and soaking in the world all around them.

At a pause in their conversation, Luz glanced at Amity. Her gaze ran over her shoulder-length lilac hair blowing in the breeze, her warm yellow eyes, her soft, peaceful smile.

Luz felt her heart swell. Just looking at her wife reminded her of how lucky she was—that she had gone through the portal, and met Amity, and persisted in being her friend, and eventually fell for her and became her girlfriend. Even after that rough patch where she promised her mom to stay in the human realm, once she convinced Camilla to let her come back, it was like she'd never left. The two of them had been happier than ever, and their relationship had thrived over the years.

She thought back to the day they had gotten engaged.

The two nineteen-year-olds had just gone for a nice dinner together. It was a clear, cool evening, the foreign sun throwing its last rays of light across the Isles before it hid itself behind the Earth.

The two girls chatted happily as they made their way to their special spot at the library. Although it was fairly late, Amity's badge let them in the building with no more than a small nod from the librarian.

Inside the room, they talked some more and re-read their favourite parts of the Good Witch Azura series, laughing as they made different voices and dramatic actions to go along with the story.

After they finished the chapter, Luz blurted, "Amity, I have to ask you something," at the same time as Amity started, "Luz, can I ask you a question?"

They stared at each other for a second, then laughed. "Let's both do it at the same time," Luz suggested. At Amity's nod, she counted, "One, two, three..."

At the same time, both girls pulled out a small box and asked, "Will you marry me?"

Once again, they bore into each other's eyes. Luz beamed. "I'm guessing that's a yes, then," she joked.

Amity laughed. "You dork," she teased affectionately. "Of course it's a yes! It'll always be a yes."

"So...should we both put each other's rings on?"

"Yeah, that makes the most sense."

They slipped the jewelry on each other's fingers and looked up at each other, their eyes filling with joyful tears. Amity fiercely wrapped her arms around her fianceé, and Luz reciprocated without hesitation.

Maybe that moment hadn't gone to plan, but with their arms around each other, it all felt right.

An alarm from her phone snapped her out of her thoughts. She shut it off, then stood up.

"Come on," she said. "I booked us an appointment at the Eiffel Tower. Let's go."

Amity's eyes glittered as she stood up and started walking. "Is it nice?"

"I don't know. I've never been here before." Luz bounced a bit as she walked. "I've heard good things about it, though."

The tower did not disappoint. The witch and the human stood, side by side, admiring the view from the second level. It truly was breathtaking. From up there, you could see all of Paris: all of the parks, shops, and streets below looked like toys. If you looked upwards, you could see the clouds floating in the bright blue sky, with an occasional bird diving and swooping freely in midair.

"Wow," Amity breathed, looking entranced.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Luz said softly.

Amity nodded. "It is." She turned her head to look at her wife. "Luz, thank you so much for suggesting to come here. This place is perfect."

The brown-eyed girl grinned. "At this point, I've read enough fanfiction to know that Paris is the best place for a honeymoon." This got a laugh from Amity in response.

"You're such a nerd," she said endearingly.

Luz smiled warmly, but then her face turned serious. "Amity, I- I want you to know how much you mean to me." The witch's eyes focused on her attentively. "I don't think I've told you much about my life before I came to the Isles because I don't like talking about it. Back at my human school, I was ignored and bullied. Any time I was brave enough to ask someone I liked out, they would laugh in my face or act disgusted, especially if it was a girl. The only friends I had were animals or fictional characters. But when I came to the demon realm, I mattered. I had friends who, despite being witches, were real. The reason I never gave up on being your friend is because I didn't want the Boiling Isles to be anything like my life back at home. I didn't want to have any enemies, anybody to make fun of me. That's also why I was so scared when I realized I liked you. I didn't want to say or do the wrong thing and make you hate me all over again.

"But you didn't hate me or make fun of me. You loved me back, and you still do, even after all these years, even when I'm acting stupid. And I know I'll always love you." She was crying now, tears running silently down her face.

Amity put her hands on Luz's cheeks and wiped away a tear with her thumb. "Of course I love you," she said softly. "You showed me unconditional kindness, even after I was a jerk to you. You made me want to be kind, too. And if I ever see one of those human brats, I'm going to give them a piece of my mind. You don't deserve any of the hatred they gave you. Any of the hatred I gave you." She felt her eyes start to water, too.

Luz sniffed. "Hey," she said. "Don't say that. You know I forgave you for that a long time ago."

"I know," Amity said tearfully, "but I still hate that I was so mean to you."

Luz grinned through her tears. "Let's just say that we're both sorry for the things we've done in the past."

You don't have anything to be sorry for, Amity thought. But instead she said, "Deal. We have both learned from our past mistakes and become better people from them."

Luz nodded. "You're so cute," she said, and pulled her wife in for a sweet Paris kiss.

A/N: Hello! Sorry this took so long to write. I had a bit of writer's block and got stuck on a few ideas. I hope you enjoyed it anyway!
