"Aaaaand...yes!" cheered Gus semi-quietly.
"Nice shot!" Luz complimented, nodding approvingly.
Willow grinned fondly and shook her head, taking a glance towards the teacher at the front of the classroom that, luckily, hadn't noticed their shenanigans so far. "Okay," Luz said, "now it's my turn."
She took a random piece of paper off her desk without looking and crumpled it up, keeping her eyes on the recycling bin. "Okay, let's see what I got."
Willow's eyes widened. "Luz, wait-"
"Woosh!" Luz watched as her paper landed in the bin, her eyes lighting up. "Yes! I got it!"
When she turned towards Willow and Gus, they looked shocked. "What?" she asked. "Did the teacher see us?" She cast an inconspicuous look at the front, but the teacher was still droning on about different types of magical taxes and stuff. Blargh. Even magic school could be boring.
"No, Luz, I think that was your homework," Gus said.
"Wha?" Sure enough, when she searched her desk for her homework, it had disappeared.
Seeing her frustrated face, Willow put a hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry, you can get it out later. It was for healing, right?" At Luz's confirmation, she offered a small smile. "So you can find it after class and then hand it in. Nobody will know!"
Luz gave her a smile in return, but she wasn't exactly super hyped about having to search through the recycling bin.

After class was over, the three of them not-so-discreetly headed over to the recycling bin. Luz bent down and rummaged through all of the paper, trying to find her homework. She was quick, but messy: taking out pieces of paper, opening them to see their contents, and tossing them to the side. She saw a few note pages and a few other miscellaneous papers like abomination ingredients and instructions for how to correctly brew a love potion (she suspected this was for Valentine's Day- or Bilentine's Day, as the Boiling Isles called it), but her healing paper was nowhere to be seen.
Frustrated at her lack of success, she started to search more frantically, pulling out paper by paper as the seconds ticked by. She pulled out a crumpled-up and folded piece of paper and hastily unfolded it, scanning its contents before determining that it wasn't the paper she was looking for.
Wait- what? Was that her name on the paper?
She re-read it, brow furrowed. It was! At the very top: Luz, in fancy, swoopy letters. Why would her name be in here?
Her curiosity momentarily distracted her from her mission, and she read the paper, which appeared to be a short note:
𝘓𝘶𝘻, 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘣𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘉𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘦? 𝘐𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘴 𝘺𝘦𝘴, 𝘮𝘦𝘦𝘵 𝘮𝘦 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘚𝘤𝘢𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘺 14𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘵 5𝘱𝘮.-𝘈𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘺 ♡
Luz re-read the letter several times, trying to process what it meant. It couldn't be true—but Amity's question and heart signed by her name at the end hadn't left much up for interpretation. She'd even mentioned Bilentine's Day!
"You okay, Luz?" Willow asked. "Your face is kinda red."
Luz realized that Willow was right; her face felt really warm, matching the feeling of disbelieving giddiness inside her. She quickly nodded. "Yep! I'm fine! Toootally groovy!"
